Been a huge HKS fan ever since ripping the HKS GTR in Gran Turismo. Used their parts on my twin turbo BMW and never thought of HKS unless I was looking at the part - always worked flawlessly.

HKS didn't just become a globally recognized tuner/parts company, they are seen in every corner of car culture. You can pop the hood of any tuner/muscle/euro/rock crawler/swamp buggy and see HKS parts.

So initial D stage 5, Ryosuke’s arc battle with the zero r32 was based off of a real car 😱

I feel like putting that 'Legal Muffler' on my 2000 Civic Sedan would be a heavy flex to absolutely no one but you reading this and myself.

The Zero R wasn't sold to our sultan, but to a semi-private collector with a pretty crazy collection. U can find the video on Galeri Kereta from a few years ago. Today the Zero R is still well maintained along with his rocketbunny fd rx7, 964, another rx7, 2 r32's and a celica. The owner also organizes a pretty big car show every year called BKS or "Borneo Kustom Show", videos are available online too

I was the editor of a local car magazine called Borneo Tuner here in Sabah, Malaysia, neighbour to Brunei. Our magazine featured the Zero R many years ago. I would gladly look for the old copy for you and send over if you are interested.

I am glad to know of the 'Zero R' a long time ago. In Australia we used to have a magazine 'High Performance Imports' that I had a subscription to. They published an article on the Zero R model, that would have been close to twenty years ago.

There’s a video Larry Chen made about a dealership in Japan where they mostly sell JDM legends, GTR, NSX, EVO, etc . And the guy that works there mentioned his boss (owner of the dealership) had a Zero R but then sold it not too long ago, he also has an R34 Z tune and and R33 400R, he mentioned he regrets selling the Zero R.

My old boss was an HKS agent here in South Australia in the 80's. Most of the "factory fitted" turbo Bluebirds came from Reynella Datsun where he worked.

What a legendary story.

It kinda feels like HKS isn't as mainstream anymore (compared to where they were in the early 00s, and compared to other Japanese brands like GReddy). But in my head, that logo, with the 3 capital letters, will forever be synonymous with JDM.

Whenever Japanese tuning companies are brought up, literally the first name that pops in my head every single time is HKS

Great summary, I never knew how extensive the history of HKS was and how involved they were in pioneering the aftermarket tuning industry.

Another incredible story hope you guys talk about Greddy, Blitz, Cobb, Veilside, or Apexi next

I bought hks turbo timer, intake, ssq blow-off valves, and several other parts for my z32 300zx TT 2+2 back when I swapped a jdm engine into the chassis in 2004. I loved everything they sold and all their parts worked flawlessly on my Z.

Around 2000/2001 my dad and I started modding an e36 328. I got to pick out the exhaust so being a gran turismo/tokyo xtreme racer kid i picked the hks exhaust. And thanks to tokyo xtreme racer 0 having the trailer to the original Fast and furious we went to opening weekend with the car. Had been 5 speed swapped, m3 cams, chipped and exhaust by then. I felt like the coolest 13 year old ever.😂 By 06/07 it was the first to make 1000whp and to run 9s. And it all started with an hks exhaust. Makes me glad I grew up in the garage, dyno rooms and at the drag strip. Especially during what i consider the best era for car modification.

12:25 The new livery adds more horsepower. 47bhp to be precise. Also reduced the weight by 19-22kilograms.
