Why morphine helps dying patients
#hospicecare

At the end of life, morphine is commonly used to manage symptoms like shortness of breath, a condition known as dyspnea. By acting on the brain's pain receptors and the respiratory system, morphine helps to relax the muscles involved in breathing, making it easier for the person to breathe and feel more comfortable. It also has a calming effect, which can reduce anxiety that often accompanies labored breathing. In hospice and palliative care settings, morphine is administered in carefully controlled doses to provide relief and improve the quality of life in the final days.

Yes it helps them to be more comfortable but it also speeds up death for somebody who is already struggling to breathe
