As a firefighter, I had seen a lot of traumatic deaths throughout my career. When my mom was put on hospice and the end was near, the nurse gave her a small dose of morphine. It was the most peaceful death I had ever seen…and our family was extremely appreciative for that nurse, making sure that my mom did not suffer.

Morphine is perfect!! It just gets a bad rap because it’s addictive…and who cares about that when you’re about to go?!!
Thank you so much for your work♥️

My mom was born in 1910, she was a nurse in the 30's and 40's. She said morphine lowers the blood pressure allows the dying to be comfortable. She was all for morphine.

My husband died 2 weeks ago from brain cancer. I was approved to put him in hospice care in which he stayed for 4 days. THANK GOD FOR HOSPICE!!!! He was kept so comfortable and passed away so peacefully.

My in laws however didn't really approve of me placing him in hospice because they believe that hospice kills people. NOT TRUE!!!! his cancer killed him. Hospice nurses kept him comfortable and helped him die with dignity.

Morphine and liquid Xanax was a godsend for my grandma. I'm so glad we got hospice for her when we did. Her death was so peaceful.

As an RT we used to give nebs with saline and morphine for folks with lung CA and are suffering with air hunger. Amen, given a bad rap. I agree with you 100% and thanks for this.

My grandmother was actively dieing for several days. The nursing home staff informed us that morphine would "help her along". It was OK with family (we were all there) she passed shortly after, quietly. We were grateful.🙏

5mg sublingually was THE BEST for my 90y.o, Da. I always SMH when I hear families
Gasp themselves ( and worry their dying Fam member will become ADDICTED 😳 )
Ever hear this? OMGOSH --😄 They have seen "The Cider House Rules" too many
times. Thanks for your loving service.💕

I'm so relieved to know this! Because as someone with asthma, this has been one of my biggest fears about covid. Thank you!

I will never forget this one assisted living home that I worked in a few years ago ( I was a CNA for way too long). I had a client who was on hospice and the owner of the facility told me not to give the morphine because they die sooner and he still needed that patients rent. I HATE almost ALL Of those places, they just DO NOT CARE!

Air hunger from COPD is one of the worst things I’ve seen in my career. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

I gave my mom all the medications the hospice nurse provided for end of death relief. Yes, Morphine worked very well for her. She had a very peaceful death. She chose to transition when we left the room for only a few minutes. I really wanted to be there when she died but she didn't want that.

I have learned so much from you Julie. I want to personally thank you so much. I honestly assumed that morphine was used to speed up the dying process. Sort of like overdosing the patient. This was so helpful.

I've had family members arguing with their dying loved ones that if they take morphine they (the dying person) will become addicted to it. My response has always been "yup. They'll be addicted for all of two or three days. Then they'll die. Pain free. Not gasping for air. Or they can die without any, gasping for air that they can't find, possibly in pain. It's their choice"
Usually it turns out that the family has an addict somewhere in their make-up (son, cousin etc).

My mother was on hospice at my house. It really helped her. My sister told me I gave her too much as she died 2 days later. I hag given her a dose the first morning the second at bed time and the third in the morning and she dies about noon. Families that don’t help can be so cruel.

I wondered why the Dr took my friend off her pain meds and changed to morphine. And now I know. She felt she couldn't breath. Thank you for sharing. U answer questions in every video I may have thought of at the time but was reminded I thought about them until your videos. Thank you. ❤️

When my mother was in hospice (COPD) she didn’t want to take morphine because she was afraid she’d become an addict. The nurse assured her it would be ok. Such a sad but sweet moment.
