Jackie Chan in Conversation

20 years after he first appeared in front of cameras in Australia, martial arts superstar and acting legend Jackie Chan gave his first public talk at Sydney Opera House. Exploring his extraordinary life and career - from the '78 Hong Kong hit Drunken Master and Hollywood breakthrough Rumble in the Bronx to the upcoming Bleeding Steel (to be filmed in Sydney) - the Chinese superstar discussed his signature blend of comedy and kung-fu, his life-long commitment to philanthropy, and his relationship with Australia since first living here with his family.

At seven years of age, Jackie Chan was enrolled in the China Drama Academy to hone his skills in martial arts and Chinese Opera. As the Hong Kong film industry reached a new peak in popularity, he jumped into stunt-work, quickly gaining a reputation for his inventive and fearless style. When the local film industry suffered a decline, he relocated to Australia to join his family but returned to Hong Kong to achieve the break-through movie success that set him on the path to becoming the screen icon we know today.

A tireless cultural ambassador who has revolutionised the film industry, Jackie Chan delighted audiences as he discussed his celebrated life and career during an intimate and lively discussion on the Concert Hall stage.

I wish Jackie Chan could live forever. There won't be another one like him.

The moment he described Bruce Lee left in a cab and looked at Jackie for few seconds sounded like a mega star was giving his legacy to the next mega star, what a amazing story and coincidence

I love how much RESPECT he has to Stand up every time and address the audience. This man is the last living hero of a great generation. Jackie has truly become a dragon... Wise, powerful, beautiful and immortal in both his movies and his spirit.

I’m on a Jackie Chan interview marathon and I can’t stop. He’s just so lovable to watch. Not just entertaining but you gain some wise knowledge from each one. He’s a very intelligent guy. May we remember and celebrate his life while he’s still here with us in 2023 and forward.

I love that he could speak about Bruce Lee freely as long as he wanted without any interuption from the host. This is the only time i have seen Jackie Chan express himself fully. He really loved Bruce Lee just as everybody else did and does and Lee himself really saw in Jackie that he was a great martial artist with amazing speed and timing. Its no question that Bruce Lee saw something unique and special in him and Jackie felt this. They really began to bound as friends and i bet if Bruce was alive he would definitly do a movie with Jackie right after game of death but sadly the dragon died and the little dragon was born..Really moving and an touching song at the end too.You are the greatest mr Chan.

People overuse the term beloved about famous people. But with Jackie it really is appropriate. A legend.

He wrote a book not too long ago and spoke very honestly saying, I was 20 and a millionaire. No one taught me the right things, ” and he wrote the book to tell people “Jackie Chain’s not perfect. Now yes. But then not.” So candid and thoughtful. I hope his book reaches a lot of people, his life and work certainly has.
