Kinmen Islands, Taiwan – The tiny Taiwanese island of Kinmen is being ravaged by a hurricane.
On a deserted beach along the island's west coast, heavy waves batter a line of rusted defence stakes anchored to concrete foundations that run like the spikes on a hedgehog's back down the rocky coastline.
Residents of Kinmen, Robin Young and Ne-Xie Wang, are seeing the waves crashing on the coast farther up the beach, despite the violent weather. Behind them, the wind howls through the crevices of long-abandoned military positions and American-made tanks.
