Will A New Cold War Emerge Between US And China? | Insight | Full Episode

The simmering tensions between the US and China have reached a boiling point during the coronavirus pandemic. In rapidly evolving global dynamics, the Trump administration officially pulled the plug on US funding of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) criticising the organisation for being too friendly with China and for providing cover for Beijing in the wake of its mishandling of the COVID-19 outbreak. As the two largest economies of the world get openly hostile and indulge in a war of words, what’s at stake goes beyond implications to trade dispute. Will the confrontational policy of the US towards China continue beyond the US Presidential election in November? Could this be the beginning of a new Cold War? Are the US-China relations edging to a point of no return?

It is amazing to see that how different the mind of these two part of world has become. No part believes they are wrong. Because everyone is fighting for their benefits. If the US fights for their benefits in South China Sea. Why China couldn’t fight for it?

Every country has a domestic security law, so does the US and EU countries etc. and they pretty much have the same provisions (US is way more strict). I do not see what is such a big deal except for it not allowing anyone from the outside from meddling in domestic affairs.

The spike of reported cases in the United States from 85 cases (on March 2) to 1, 367, 638 cases (80, 787 deaths) on May10, is just something too difficult to grapple with.
It seems to point towards the situation where a cover-up was in the work, for someone blunders, intentional or otherwise.
Cases in point:
* CDC director, Mr Robert Redfield, had admitted in his testimony to the Congress on 13 March 2020, that the virus deaths have been miscategorised as the flu. He had also stated that the standard practice has been to first test people for the flu and, if the test is positive, they stopped there. They don’t test for the coronavirus.

* The denial by both U.S. state and Federal authorities to grant permission to infectious disease experts in Seattle, lead by Dr. Helen Y. Chu, to test for Covid-19 in the sate of Washington, especially when the presence of coronavirus was already looming like an elephant in the living room. For weeks have passed by since Wuhan lock down, and outbreaks have been reported in countries outside of China.

The progression of infected cases, and the way it explodes in the United States and Europe vs that of China and Asia, suggests that “it (the Covid-19) must have been here this entire time..It’s just everywhere already, ” as Dr. Helen Y. Chu, the Seattle based infectious disease expert, observed.

Someone responsible for controlling the emergency preparedness and response against the spread of infectious diseases in the United States must have failed - big time!

What better way is there for the perpetrators to cover-up other than blaming the bogeymen, China and the W.H.O.?

Recently China also won the UN vote on Iran! With vastly more nations supporting Iran and China, than the US. And NATO is now almost on the brink of war internally.

Unless CNA maintain some neutrality and produced a balanced documentary, it risked becoming irrelevant. It is tremendously important for Singapore to be seen as not taking side in this zero sum game played by big countries.

Can US turn it’s back on China’s cheap manufacture? It’s going to cost them more to switch to another country like India or Vietnam even if these countries are economically cheaper than China in the Long run with training cost increase and dire need for more skilled workers.
