Yesterday, we had the pleasure of participating in the Virtual MEAF Cement Conference, organized by Global Cement, during which our CEO, Amr Nader, delivered a keynote speech on the topic of "Cement Sector Opportunities and Challenges 2030." During that, Eng. Amr addressed the challenges facing the Middle East and Africa cement sector, including fluctuating raw material prices, political instability, and regulatory complexities. However, he also emphasized the significant opportunities arising amidst these challenges stemming from urbanization, infrastructure development, and the growing demand for construction materials. These factors are driving growth and investment potential in the region.
The region's growing construction sector, driven by increasing oil prices in GCC countries and a growing population in Africa, plays a crucial role in driving GDP growth in the region.
On the other hand, every challenge presents an opportunity, and vice versa. The region is facing several transitional “Challenges/ Opportunities” combinations that can be summarized in: Demand Expansion, Infrastructure Development, Supply Chain Efficiency, Technological Advancements, Sustainability and Environmental Regulations, Competition and Market Consolidation.
In addition to that, the region ranks as the second-largest producer of cement globally and serves as a hub for cement exports and imports. Consequently, addressing the climate challenge becomes a key focus, where the region is well positioned to lead the race towards decarbonization and achieving net-zero emissions. This is backed by the relatively new assets and the active engagement of governments with major transitions taking place in countries such as Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
