Bill Benham & Michæl Maxwell Steer - Flow (MM Steer)

The genesis of this piece were pictures accompanying a talk given at my daughter Suzi’s international Tree Conference in Glastonbury last November on the role mycorrhizal fungus plays in the health of trees, enabling them forming a subterranean networking mechanism by which they share information. I thought the images were so fascinating I wanted to make some music to accompany them.
The piece hasn’t entirely come out like that because I decided to add a violin part to make it into a duo for Bill and me to play, but there are times in its fantasia-like structure where you can let your imagination respond to the sounds.
