I discovered something helpful. If you want to fully "replace" the video - not "edit" the existing. Go ahead and upload the re-recorded video as new. YouTube will give you the option to use details from the original post - saving you the time of re-doing all of that work! Once you pick that option, you can edit the title, description, etc. as needed. But the ability to re-use prior details saves time.

It's a shame that the comments cant be carried over. Our company has updated our product videos (technology changes) but it's great that have peoples comments and reviews about the item. Replacing all our videos looses the credibility we gained for customers over the years. Anyways, thank you for answering the questions I have been trying to find. :)

Doesn't seem to be an option in Editor to simply increase the audio levels - I mistakenly thought that having them at 100% in iMovie was sufficient and it was too quiet, even at max volume. Had to upload a whole different version.

Giant YouTube channels like Vevo have the ability to replace their videos without losing views and comments. Many of their older music videos that were originally 480p and mono had been replaced with 1080p or even 4K with remastered stereo audio without losing views and comments plus the original date published is retained. They also kept the original URL which means those who already shared the link can still access them.
