I'm a little late here, but I wanted to reply to the photography section. I have worked as a professional photographer for a number of years and wanted to give some insight and maybe offer a piece of advice.

Disclaimer: I don't focus on portrait or family photography, but I have done some. In my niche, having the copyright/RAW's gives me the ability to sell my photos to more than one party. This is not the case for your family photos. There is no extended value to your personal family photos beyond using them as portfolio/marketing material (whether by themselves, or through word of mouth from people in your life seeing your photos).

Advice first: When you contact a photographer, explain that you are a public personality and that you want your photos to not be used in their portfolio, and also that these family photos will not be made public on your end as well. Put these terms in the contract and offer to pay more for this "service". Second, in conjunction or separately, offer to buy the copyright, including RAW photos, because you are a public person and do not want these private family photos to ever become public. I think a photographer with some years of experience should be able to accommodate this easily. If they cannot, they are not very professional.

This leads me to my insight of the photography community. Many/most photographers are not truly business people and don't actually treat their photography business as a business. They treat it as a way to make money from a hobby, even if they are working 40+ hours a week doing it. They don't go to school to learn how to run a business, let alone a photography business. This leads people to watching/reading tutorials and taking online classes which teach them a certain way to do things. Then they stick to this way and don't know how to be flexible. This also leads many in the community to parrot things like "never sell the copyright/RAW", they are not thinking for themselves.

Two more things. It is important for a photographer to have a cohesive "style", so clients know what they are getting. Having clients alter photos and tagging you does make it look like you produce wildly different results and that can lead to people backing out. This is easily solved in your case by have a clause in your contract that neither of you will display these photos publicly.

Prints. This "strategy" of only offering prints and no high quality digital file is very old and antiquated. There are some rare exceptions to this... there are photographers who specialize in extremely high end printing of their work. Using very expensive processes to produce prints that are of the highest quality. This is ONLY VALID for people looking for this very specific type of result (very wealthy people / art collectors). This is not really valid for 99.9% of photographers who send off a digital file to a printer or print on their home "enthusiast" printers.

What Luke said about not telling kids they are amazing hit me hard. I was called the little professor since kindergarten and always got high grades in school even though I never put any effort into it. But IRL I’ve worked minimum wage jobs for 15 years while my friends from school that struggled make lots of money. If I’m not immediately amazing at something I lose interest right away. I got diagnosed with Asperger’s as an adult and to this day people say I’m smart and I can hold conversations with economists, historians, politicians, scientists at parties but I’m still stuck at a dead end low wage job. I am forcing myself to change however and learning to work with physical labour. Something I’ve never been good at besides tinkering with computers. I have been doing great in school but when the internship started it was obvious that I struggled with IRL work but this time I don’t plan on giving up. It is physical labour up it requires a licence to work that has to be renewed every 5 years so it requires both theory to pass the tests and practical skills.

Luke, I had a parakeet who lived to be an old old old lady bird. She outlived two of her friends. When I went to collage, my parents kept her entertained with nick and disney channel on my old box tv. She had a whole system of making a particular squawk if she wanted the channel changed but she'd often time be found singing and dancing watching the screen. If we weren't going to be home, we even had the tv on a timer for her so she wouldn't be bored

Been to Taiwan, and Japan a few times and I can say that the feeling between those two countries were quite similar. You can see scooters, and motorbikes with keys on them left out of malls, and stores, not afraid they might get stolen. Awesome country.

I’m in the wedding video business and I get asked a lot for the raw clips. It’s BRAW and Canon MXF… It used to bother me because often when I give the client even compressed h265 files so they can view them without needing Resolve or Premiere it often led to lots of questions regarding why there’s no audio in half of a slo mo clip or why the audio is a different file, etc, etc. Camera things. So now I give a fair message about what the editors job is in a multi videographer wedding day and then proceed to give them the files. That communication eliminated all confusion with people unfamiliar with the process moving forward. I personally don’t mind giving them the files if they are kind of a nerdy family. Must be fun to have all that and the know how to make what ever from it.
