Thank you! I had this problem a few years ago and now when I installed a new laptop I forgot about the adapter settings. This definitely refreshed my memory. Excellent advice!

Unable to view replies to questions below. Have the L2TP VPN setup for several years for access from Windows 10 into Edgerouter X.  All the sudden, it's bogged down to nearly zero speed. I understand there is a firmware issue with Ubiquiti, did the IPsec offload disable - didn't solve problem.  Any ideas?

Hi. I followed your lesson on doing a L2TP vpn on edgerouter. I can connect internally but not externally from the outside. Seems there is a firewall setting blocking me. What can I do? Thank you

Thanks Tony, all clear, I can connect with an outside computer to the Edgerouter, confirming 'VPN connected'. I just don't know how I can access a machine on the LAN behind the Edgerouter to e.g. copy a file to that outside computer. How can you do this?

Thank you for this info. I was able to use your instructions on how to create the server on the router and my iPhone connects fine but my windows 10 still have a problem. I did everything you mentioned here but now I get this error. *"A connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection"* Have you seen this before? Any suggestion is welcome. Thank you again

What if you need to connect to the VPN server from a client device that does not have a vpn client (say, an Apple TV)
How would you manage that?
In this case can you configure the vpn client on the edgerouter where the Apple TV is located and then route the Apple TV’s traffic over that VPN tunnel?

The idea here is to allow Apple TV access from a remote location (the remote Apple TV should have a source IP as if it were physically connected on the local network). Is this possible?
What kind of VPN should I use?
1) RA VPN
2) site-to-site VPN
3) other?
Thanks

Hi Toni, like ALWAYS, GREAT JOB!!! On Win 10, Apple works like a charm. But on Android, no. You have a video for Android users? Thank you again.

Hi Tony, hoping you can help I followed the instructions in both of your videos, but I am still unable to connect with an Android, iPhone or Windows 10 PC. The Windows 10 PC (USB tethered) keeps coming up with the following error. Can't connect to Test VPN The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer.

Fairly sure I have followed all the step correctly on the client end, and think there is a setting wrong on the EdgeRoute Lite 3 side. I have been over your (and several other videos time and time again trying both CLI and Config Tree methods) and can't see where it is going wrong. Would really appreciate if you could point me to the setting that needs to be changes. I'm using PPPOE with a DHCP IP address provided by the ISP. Their DNS address is static.

Hi Tony,
I must say - I watched two of your videos one on configuration of L2TP server on EdgeRouter-X and the other connection of the Windows 10 built-in VPN client. Amazingly clear and extremely helpful. I just got my new EdgeRouter-X yesterday, and noticed the firmware was version v1.10.7. I went to the Ubiquiti site and saw that many upgrades have occured, now up to Version 2. I see the latest Version 1 - v1.10.10 and now the latest Version 2 v2.0.6. I have never been one to jump on firmware upgrades without knowing how stable they may be. Just wondering if you have any thoughts on this! Thanks again.

Hi Tony, Thank you very much for the very useful videos.
I watched the video of how to setup L2TP over IPsec on Edgerouter, and this video. everything worked flawlessly. (I am using static IP setup on the edgerouter)
The problem started when I added a second windows 10 computer in the same subnet at the remote site. only one of them is able to connect to the VPN at the same time. I have to disconnect one for the other to connect successfully. I used a different local-user for each VPN connection.
have you encountered such a trouble? any thoughts?
Many Thanks.

Hi Tony.
Great Video!
Now I can connect to my home without any extra software.
I have just one problem - my Windows 10 Mobile Nokia Lumia 730 and Microsoft Lumia 950.
There in no option to allow CHAP protocol.

Tony, Great Video and very helpful. This has been working great for me for some time, however, after the most recent updates to Win 10, I seem to have broken my connections on my desktop, yet my laptop and iphone continue to work just fine. Do you have any troubleshooting tips that you could send me on finding what the issue is? Ive tried deleting all the VPN connections and reinstalling them to no avail. Win-10 Laptop and Iphone work just fine. Any thoughts?

Followed your steps and everything works, but from the remote device I am unable to see servers behind the EdgeRouter. Any thoughts?

How to configure router side for this?

It would be great if this worked, but it doesn’t. Ubiquiti’s support section has a hundred threads on the topic but still no go. I’m going to another router and moving on.

Hi! I hope you can respond immediately sir! I am having issue with connecting my windows 10 laptop to our VPN. The laptop is able to connect to a hotel and even to my mobile phone tether. But it can't on our office router. The other laptops on our office which are Mac are able to connect with no problem. Im getting this error

"The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established because the remote server is not responding."

Looking forward for your response. thank you!

Warning, Even though this does work for one or 2 connections, If you are attempting to deploy this for business (multiple users) It is going to fail, and is a known issue.
