The error you have made is in squaring y-x.
If you square (y-x) you get (y-x)(y-x)=y^2-2xy+x^2
This makes the equation more complex and is why you use my substitution method.

quick question are the answers to normal simultaneous equations tangents as well because they have only one solution??? another thing is are you supposed to write normal simultaneous equations as coordinates or leave them as x=? and y=? thanks for this helpful tutorial by the way!
