Prolapse: Rectocele Symptoms and Treatment

Did you know using a pessary can help you avoid surgery for prolapse?

Pessaries can be taken in/out every day or every few days depending on the type.

They don’t have to be used all the time

Some people only use them during specific activities (ie running), while others wear them all day.

You probably haven’t heard of them before because it’s not a huge money maker in the overall medical industry, so there’s less marketing budget 🙄

Anyways, I digress!

Physical therapists in the US (and most countries) can fit for these but they do have to have specific training.

We fit for them our clinic @resilient_rx in ATX, but if you’re not in the area, you can call around in your area and see who does fit them.

They can be a HUGE help if you have urinary leakage, constipation, pelvic pain (if you have prolapse), ongoing low back pain that’s not relieved with orthopedic Pt

Signs you may have rectocele:
-low back/sacral aching
-poo residue in your undies after you pooped even after thorough wiping
-feeling like the poo is there but you can’t get it out
-pressure feeling like a tampon is in when it isn’t
-and more (this isn’t an inclusive list).

It sounds really scary and alot of people tend to feel shame around rectoele. Fear not! It doesn’t mean you’re dirty or you did anything wrong!

You’re not alone

It gets better 💕
