I’m not sure where you’re located my friend but I’m in Connecticut. The amount of yellow jackets last year here was bananas! I work outside and I actually had to be on alert all day long, looking for nests. Typically underground ones

they built a nest in an old boot on my porch . tried throwing gas on the nest at night ... didn't work . tried covering it w/a dish pan to block access ... didn't work . lined the floor around pan w/a thick layer of sevin dust that they had to crawl thru ... success !
