The tropics will stay quiet for the next few days, but we are watching one area in the NW Caribbean. A tropical wave is moving across the Caribbean and it is expected to develop into an area of low pressure in the NW Caribbean later this week. Conditions will be favorable for some development into a tropical depression late this week and into the weekend. It will move slowly WNW toward the Yucatan Peninsula and will likely cross it early next week and get into the Bay of Campeche according to the latest forecast models. We will keep an eye on it.

Elsewhere...the rest of the tropics will stay quiet for the next 5 days.

Of course, hurricane season is not over yet. It has been appearing that the Atlantic basin may get a bit more active during the month of October.

Sometimes, cold fronts that settle south of us over the Gulf can foster tropical development in October. Also, a pattern called the Madden-Julian Oscillation may enter a more favorable phase for tropical formation.

There are still two months until the official end of the Atlantic hurricane season on November 30.
