Without ramen, I would not have lived until this age. Life is full of difficulties. But ramen brought me out of depression. Ramen helped me get through bullying in school. The depth and the joy of ramen has given me hope to go one step further in life. Ramen saved my life.

I love ramen. Easily my favorite food. Instant ramen got me though college, but as an older man, that actually has a kitchen, I've improved on my cheap ramen quite a bit. It just warms the soul.

Okinawa Soba is my favorite. When I used to lived there my favorite thing to do is enjoy a bowl of Soba after a long day at work sometimes for breakfast too.

Easy slurping technique: pull the noodles out with your chopsticks, coil the bottom of the noodles onto the spoon, slurp! Just slurping directly from chopsticks, soup flies everywhere and it's difficult. But using the spoon to help makes it easy! Eat with both hands, yum!

Love your videos!! For a vegetarian, would you say asking for a Shoyu base when ordering would be your best bet to avoid dashi or pork bone broth?

I had a tonkatsu ramen from a noodle restaurant in Bogota (Colombia) while I was travelling there this summer it was so good
There's a restaurant chain here in the UK called Wagamamas, they make good chicken ramen
I should go to japan sometime and try more types because ramen is nice

Great explanation ad presentation with detailed research. I think it’s quite helpful for foreigners to know about Ramen noodles in Japan. However, there is one exception.
Soki soba or Okinawa Soba is not Ramen noodles but Udon noodles.

When visiting Fukuoka, try Shin Shin Ramen as your baseline Hakata ramen, then try the other restaurants around the city to see if there's a better one (it's definitely note Ichiran).
Kumamoto ramen is tonkotsu-based, but is characterized with lots of garlic and crispy chashu pork. A good baseline ramen in Kumamoto is Komurasaki at the Kamitori Shopping Arcade.

This is just my opinion, but I think that the information presented in this video is really well (or at least seems to be) researched, so it's an easy video to get an idea of what ramen is and how it made its way to Japan. Having said that, seeing as there are so many different regional specialities of ramen, so many different takes on the dish (such as tsukemen), after learning the basics of what ramen is and its history, I would have liked all the different varieties of ramen to have been showcased in separate videos. This would have allowed for more leeway into given more details about the origin of those regional specialties, especially seeing as some of those details/stories are just so darned interesting! For example, miso ramen (famous in Hokkaido) apparently got its start after a drunk salaryman (if I remember the story correctly) at a Japanese-style bar asked that ramen noodles be placed into a bowl of miso soup.

Its my favorite Japanese food which is ironic since it's not originally from Japan.

Ramen is Chinese in Origin all the Japanese proudly accept this fact. But the Japonohile white men have hard time digesting this fact. In fact everything that is intellectual in nature ( pertaining to Japan Koreas, SE Asia) have Chinese in origin.
Love from India.

Should probably be mentioned that it's also common to say usume and koime instead of assari and kotteri. And sometimes you can choose also less/normal/more oil.
