Kind of a neat inversion of the usual "fate worse than death" trope, where someone is punished by being forced to die over and over again due to e.g. being made immortal and tortured. In this case the person being killed over and over again isn't the one who is really being punished, and is actually the one who caused it to happen in the first place.
