Royal Oak Charcoal Review

I've read that Royal Oak is the company that makes the Big Green Egg branded charcoal. Royal Oak is about $20 less per bag locally so I thought I would grab a bag and check it out.

After going through the entire bag I can say that it's definitely different than what comes out of the BGE branded bags.

I found that it sparks more, a lot more. It smokes more initially as well. I also found it seems to burn faster and hotter meaning it doesn't last quite as long.

However, overall it's pretty good charcoal. Certainly worth the $20 savings. I am going to try a couple more bags and see how they are and I will update you all with a final verdict. I also plan to try out the Nature's Own brand that Costco sells for $10 a bag. Watch out for that review.

Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe.

Liked because I had never used charcoal before and just needed to see how to get it going.

You say "...it is Odd because the same company is making it ..."
You are not burning the same product therefore you should expect different results even it is the same company.
You don't expect Sprite to taste like Coke even they are the same company

Seeing as you live up here in the Great White North, if you are in Ontario head on over to BBQ World and pick up a Bag of Le Gourmet Argentinian Lump (Restuarant Grade Stuff). This stuff puts the Royal Oak to shame. MUCH longer burn, and much easier stuff to control temps.

I have found the occasional rock inside a bag of Royal Oak charcoal? Anyone else? I suspect it may be leftover from the manufacturing process.
