Fox City Brewing Company in Forsyth, Georgia, serves pale ales, stouts and other microbrews. The new addition, called Revival Lager, stands apart from anything it’s made before — and from nearly every other beer on tap in the US. Fox City’s menu calls it a “light, crisp, eco-friendly lager made from highly repurposed and recycled water.” This is a delicate way of saying that it’s made from treated sewage.

I thought wastewater was treated and released back into the rivers, lakes, or seas anyway only for it to be drunk again at some point in the future later in the water cycle. Is this correct? What are the benefits of drinking treated wastewater directly instead of releasing it and just getting water from where water is coming from now? Isn't it all a closed system anyway, just one on a larger scale than shower/toilet -> treatment -> beer?
