How to create a heart in Inkscape

There are many ways to create shapes in Inkscape. Here's one easy way to draw a heart.

What is really happening when you do intersection of both selected? I didn't get why you needed to duplicate them.

fracture and then delete the bottom then union the rest, do the trick to me without the need to duplicate the two squares..
