The Proclaimers — I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) [Gender inclusive cover]

Last weekend marked five years since James and I appeared on The Voice UK. Though our journey was bittersweet, I was blown away by the response to my blind audition and the reaction from people around the world to my music. Recently my blind audition clip reached 5 million views on youtube so to celebrate these milestones James and I have put together a brand new version of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) with a little help from our friend Danny Bochkov.

We wanted to create a whole new recording in order to address some of the feedback we received on the previous release. Lots of people wanted it to be a bit more like my original audition, and we knew we could get closer to recreating that atmosphere. More importantly, however, It also created a fantastic opportunity to make the song more inclusive by tweaking the original lyrics just a tiny bit.

Since 2015 I’ve had the privilege of performing my version of the Proclaimers classic at more than 50 weddings around the world and it’s been played at many more I couldn’t attend. One request we see very often is to have the word ”man” swapped out for the word ”one” in order to include LGBTQIAP+ folks who want to celebrate their love through music. I loved this idea so much and I’m excited that we were able to make our 2020 edition a much more inclusive version of the song. I hope you enjoy this new version just as much as the original!

This is unbelieveable...I've been listening to your cover of this song four years ago when I first found it on Youtube...I told my friends about it, shared it with them, danced to it with a special girl at that time and one month ago I remembered this song and was listening to it again.
