i like to think they both just shook hands. cap has allready decided that hes not going to keep defending the world instead go do what makes him happy. and red has learned that the world is equally not as important as other things. they started as enamys but the end knowing that they dont really matter in the grand scheme of things

I actually think the Russo Brothers stated that after the sooner was received by Hawkeye, Redskull was released from his duty as the stone was no longer there to be acquired by those searching for it

Yeah, it would have been anti-climactic.
By this time, they are both completely different people.
The Red Skull has a radically different perspective on life now. He has been let in on many secrets of the cosmos. He has faced his own insignificance. The fight is out of him.
Steve is prepared to set down his burden and let others take it up. (Which is not to say he quit. He deservedly retired.) The fight is out of him.
They are not meeting enemies. They are strangers now. They have no interest in each other.

I think the true question would be how would a person return the soul stone in the mcu, so they probably cut that out due to plot restrictions, which turned into more plot holes 😂

But how can Captain America return the soul stone if in theory Hawkeye is the owner of that stone. Again, in theory he was the one that gave a soul for a soul making him the owner of the soul stone. Unless Captain America created a new timeline every time he returned an infinity stone and those timelines eventually got pruned by the TVA.
