This happened to me about 5 years ago. They had my grandson’s voice perfectly. They wanted $35, 000 to bail him out of jail for involvement in an automobile accident. His “lawyer” talked to me.

I don't understand why these scammers are obviously intelligent enough to do such a thing why they don't start up a business or something actually productive instead of hurting people like this. Put your smarts to better use and be proud of what you do instead of this.

I am in favor of AI, but, of course, anything good can be twisted for evil. Scammers can use technology in ingenious ways and pray off of our deepest fears- our loved ones being in danger.

Wait until you realize they use this trick with V2K, thankfully most people have experienced it yet. It takes a while to harder your psychological defenses against it, the motive is for a completley different reason than the situation in this video, its to lower your defenses to influence your emotions and actions.

In the military we called "safe words" brevity codes and there are certain ways you can carry that out without being obvious such as pairing of brevity codes and having challenge and pass code, so brevity code then response code word on other end, than second brevity code.

Listen for room tone. Background noise from an enclosed space or the outdoors. That struck me from the
data security example. Still too robotic and no extra sounds to make it sound real. But AI is working on that too.

I trust no one! I would’ve hung up and immediately called my husband (“who was with the daughter on the ski trip”) and verified the daughter was there safe and sound. OMG! People are so gullible. Sad that these criminals have an audience at the drop of a hat.

I'll be honest. The Ai's voice is missing the high emotional part of the speech (due to the strenuous situation) that makes it sound believable. I certainty wouldn't fall for it

You are incorrectly defining artificial intelligence, this is not artificial intelligence, it's essentially sound scaping from a source sample, Adobe Voco does the same thing but Adobe decided not to release it to the PUBLIC market.
