Not great odds, but Hannah has another formula: if you reject all suitors for the first 37%, then the next one who surpasses all others is the perfect partner. It sounds a little too good to be true...

"let's say you start dating around 15 years old"

Shit, i'm 7 years late to the party.

No point in dating now when I've seen Hannah Fry. Because now I can't meet anyone "better" to cash in on.

Well aren't we optimistic?

Hannah Fry should be the universally accepted perfect partner

Hannah talks a bit like she's narrating an ASMR video. Matt Parker is fairly loud, like he's giving a talk. Hannah is lowering her voice because her housemate is sleeping in the room over.

People are not products to be purchased. You can treat them as such, but that is your personal failing.

When it comes to purchasing items though, this formula holds true.

Doesn't Optimal Stopping Theory require that you are the only deciding agent in the model? For instance, doesn't the math change when a 'successful choice' requires that both parties agree to stop simultaneously?

Hmm, I married my high school girlfriend. She was my first girlfriend and I was her first boyfriend. We been married for 31 years, have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. We still very happy and I'm still in love with my wife after 35 years of being with her.

What happens when you're over 37% into your expected life span and you've never dated? Stick with the first one that comes along or risk staying forever alone?

She's beautiful and intelligent. She's my ideal partner.

If you start at 15 and end when 35, 37% of that time means you should pick someone by around age 23. What if you're 23 and have only had one relationship before? One better than one may not be much better. Also, realistically you'd have to be a sociopath for this to work. Most people aren't capable of being like "Well, I love this girl to bits and she loves me too but the maths says no. Better chuck her."

Ladies, please understand it's a difficult thing as a man to know when compliments are appropriate.  They might seems overdone, misogynistic, or insensitive, but when a guy states that smart = sexy, you really REALLY need to take it at face value.  There is a large segment of the male population that does, in fact, see the Miley's, Kardashians, and Hiltons of our time as a sad state of affairs for womankind. This is the kind of individual that is thrown in our faces whenever we turn on the tv, or open a magazine, ao sometimes the relief of seeing someone of the opposite sex who takes education and intellect seriously is enough to send us in to fits.

So apologies, but yeah, smart is sexy  :-)

Did I just listen to a near 10 min long rant on paper sizes?

So, basically, it's best to totally ignore this idea!! There is a 100% chance I won't be using a math formula to decide who I want to be with...

Ah math has now become even more of a bane in my life.

You’re not factoring in physicality.
A woman can get almost any man she wants most the time. A man can’t. We have to work for it and keep working for it. Women just need a sign to pick up guys, a sign that says “you single, enter here”.
