Be careful when learning with a dull training knife. I'd really recommend really hitting one side with sand paper so it is really rough and treating that as the "sharp" side.

Butterfly knifes usually only have one side sharpened while the other is blunted. This is why you can smack one side of the knife into your finger without slicing it. A big mistake that a lot of beginners who start out with a completely dulled training knife run into is that they forget to keep track of which side of the knife you let hit your hand, and once they switch to a real knife they think they have the motion down and forget to keep track of the sharp side. This can lead to some pretty wicked injuries.

Make sure if you ever use a real one you engrave into your mind which one is the bite handle. You're holding it by the side with the latch which is usually the bite handle, meaning the sharp side of the knife
