What are the Key Fundamentals for Currencies? Corvin Codirla, ex-hedge fund manager and trader comments. What influences move the markets. One of the most important is interest rates. When it comes to currencies it is all about interest rates. Currencies is cash and what do you tradtionally with cash; you stick it into the bank and it earns interest. If you live in a country with low interest rates and you know of another country with much better rates then you have a desire to invest in that country. In simple words, he gives more weightage to technical analysis than fundamental when it comes to currency as currency normally trades within bands( SR )in short term frames.

Yes interest rates do have a "partial" drive towards currencies however it is not the major factor because most countries with high interest rates have the weakest currency value. Always have and always will.

I really dont like to trade short at all. Only for a hobby... bit like visiting a casino.. and then with very small money.. usually i break even :) Long/medium term you can make money very reliably.. but only at a rate allowed by your capital for safe trading. Ultimately problem with trading is it isn't an exact science... and paying the bills needs to be.. so its better as a thing on the side... been doing it for 6 years now.

Hmm. Without him even saying that... I realised on my own with just very little learning of the fundamentals of where currency trading is concerned is that fundamentals can be misleading as alot of actual operations within an economy behaves and reacts outside and different to how the fundamentals say it should. I don't want to 'damn' fundamentals just yet as I believe I have more to understand about it, because I inherently believe that it has to have its place. But so far... Everything I'm learning about fundamentals seems to not necessarily be the case when it comes to stacking it against the effects in the economy. So trying to take a birds eye view of the entire situation and recognizing sequences and patterns (technical analysis) shows itself as a better route to follow as it doesn't try to understand what drives the market. Its more like.. 'whatever drives the market and causes the effect, let's just identify the general flow and pattern of how the effect shows itself on a chart/graph and master its sequences/patterns. That's the idea I'm getting thus far. I may need to review this comment as time goes on if my learning and understanding of things shine a different light, but for now this is the direction I seem to see things showing that they are, and here it's being supported by someone who I'm assuming is quite verse individual.

If investors not interested in particular assets or a currency despite of higher interest rates among others, then It's totally nonsense. The thing is, better know how to figure out what majority of investors sentiment by following financial-driven news and politics that really have an impact. All these are short term that you want to capture precisely in and out without being caught in the market.
