Learning To Stall A Plane Can Be Fun..

Stalls cause a lot of anxiety for new student pilots. My view is, it doesn't have to be that way. Having a base understanding of stall theory, coupled with a relaxed training environment can yield positive results, just like JD had in this video!

Enjoy the stalls!

Stalling was my favourite part of training. I think you guys have a great relationship and communication, this is how training should be!

I was terrified of stalls until I did a few. Now they’re kinda fun, especially power on stalls.

Excellent explanation, Lew. I'm converting to PA28, landing last week was far easier than I expected. Upset recovery next then I'll get signed off, hence watching your stall recovery lesson. I loved the way you let your student explain why he thought he was struggling, repeat the exercises, and then get the feel of it. His confidence grew due to your patience 🙂

I just realized if LewDix Aviation did a video with Just Plane Silly, it would just be the two giggling for 30 minutes and maybe a montage of the dancing crab and disembodied feet hitting the floor. 10/10, would watch.

One thing I will mention that may help as well (this is hard to notice from the right seat) is that it appears he has the checklist in the window right where you should be looking when doing power on stalls to prevent a wing from dropping. It may be easier for him to see which way the nose is falling if the checklist wasn't there. Overall, though, great video and I really like seeing how you teach stalls to students that are more timid, being a new CFI myself!

I remember on my checkride I had to re-do the stall because the first time I was too gentle with the controls, had the yoke right in my stomach and just ended up in a kind of falling leaf situation, but not falling enough to notice... Those PA28s really don't want to stall! A bit of faster pull (but not too fast) did the job the second time!
