if you weren't there, you'll never know how this game was leaps and bounds compared to the available games then. that rockman 2 cart was the most used cart in the game rentals.

The production quality is sound, but I can't shake the feeling that this is mostly a surface level intro to Mega Man 2 than a full history.

It was one of the first games I remember playing that allowed me to choose different bosses, so it was never the same every time I played and later plays were random. The music is what really makes each level and hearing Wiley's theme still makes me move my head.

Bubble Man's stage theme is my all time favorite.

I'm sorry, but this is a sub-quality video. You're pronouncing Inafune wrong as well as misrepresenting his role that early in the series. You give all this flowery praise of the second game without giving context to explain what was already done. And the way you constantly clip off the top and bottom of the screen, especially at points when Mega Man is in those edges, is really annoying.

Just think of how much of a fregging push over Air Man would have been if Mega Man had his slid move?? He'd be so useless to that move because the move requires that exact space needed to pull off.

It amazed me, that I always remebered the music for being way slower and sounding way better back then. Mind blow, when I learned about PAL and NTSC differences and that indeed the music of the played PAL version was slower. When I dived into emulation and stuff I always thought "duh, this sounds as it is on LSD... that's bad". Try it, the PAL version sounds better.

Love to see retro game video history videos like this still being made today.

Yeah, and everyone who has ever played this game cringed when you let the intro music slide restart into the intro again you heathen. Then just saving Wiley theme for your intro, no sir no.

Was the script of this video done by Chat GPT? Nothing interesting here.

It's insane to think one guy created this soundtrack in a short amount of time, with hardly any support from Capcom.

Great video. Mega Man 2 is one of my favorites and challenges Super Mario Bros. 3 for my favorite NES game regularly. As a kid it was one the first "hard" games I plugged a lot of time into learning the ins and outs to the point where even 30+ years later much of it is still in my muscle memory. My beating the Quick Man stage laser bars without using Time Stopper still ranks highly for me as a personal achievement. I haven't used Time Stopper on it since. One of my favorite things is watching videos or streams of people playing MM2 for the first time. I often relearn things I have forgotten over the years as my I know how to beat the enemy without it. I'm no speed runner but it is a game I do like to beat as fast as I can seeing if I can make it without dying or using an E-tank.

I never played MM games as a kid. I really enjoy them as an adult. And I would say that objectively MM2 is not as good as the later entries. However, I can understand and appreciate the impact this game had on so many people back in the day. This game was revolutionary

Mega Man 2 is a perfect sequel. It improves on everything that made the original game great.

A very important aspect of the level select approach is that it allows beginners to enjoy their time and sharpen their skills. Nothing made you scream 'I hate this!' more than being mercifully beaten up in the first stage of a game.
I played this first when I was about 8 years old, suffice to say I was not that good with games in general. Reaching the end of one (exept Super Mario Bros) was not even imaginable. With the Megaman serie I could try and retry stages that I liked more, eventually reaching the boss room with a single hp bar left. Of course I would get destroyed instantly, but seeing the boss was a reward in itself. Then I could try my luck at other stages. Still no progress made but game time was adding up, along with skill acquisition. Finally, after many rentals, I managed to beat one. The feeling was incredible.

No surprise it was the most rented one, players of any skill level could enjoy it. It was rare that a game made you whant to persevere.
Everything was here. Cool graphics, killer soundtrack, top notch diverse level design, modulable progression, sharp controls, and most of all... easy to play, hard to beat.
10/10

Your pronunciation of "Inafune" is a crime against humanity. It is perhaps the worst insult to Japan since Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

MegaMan three was more my favorite growing up. It was my cousin‘s first mega man game for the NES spent countless nights staying up all night, beating levels and figuring out which power up killed the current stages, boss, the quickest and writing it down, keeping all passwords written down in the manual in the note section, those were awesome times before mental illness took over my cousin and now we don’t talk no more watching videos like this. Reminds me of better days if you or anyone you know is struggling with mental illness please get the help you need.❤😊

TBH MegaMan2 was my first Megaman and I loved it. When I then played the original didn't like it as much as MM2

The summer of 89 was magical on the NES...Ninja Gaiden & Mega Man 2 are some of the best games on the system.
