Watercolor Pencil Tutorials and Must-Know Tips Videos for Beginners:

This week I'm sharing a full class on watercolor pencils that I put together especially for beginners getting started with this very fun (and super versatile) medium.

As I've mentioned before, watercolor pencils are very different from traditional watercolor paint, and also from wax-based/oil-based colored pencils, as they're a drawing and painting medium all wrapped up into one.

Topics covered include: what watercolor pencils are, similarities and differences between watercolor pencils and traditional watercolor paint, my must-have supplies, why swatching watercolor pencils is important (I share my own swatching process), 12-must know techniques to explore with this medium, and I finish up with sharing my thoughts on who I feel watercolor pencils would be great for (and who perhaps they're not as great for).

Thank you so much for sharing this! One thing I've had a hard time finding is information about the differences between watercolor paints and pencils. I've been using watercolor paint in my Hobonichi journal with success, but I feel like pencils may be better as they use a bit less water, so maybe there will be less page wrinkling. I have found that very dry environments, such as high desert where I live, can make traditional watercolor painting techniques challenging due to rapid drying, especially when doing wet on wet. Water color pencils are a remedy.
