The most popular version of story about the Wawel dragon says a young shoemaker came out with an idea to fill a calf skin with sulfur and leave it as bait. The dragon ate it, felt it burning from inside, drank nearly all the water form the river in an attempt to quench the thirst and finally burst into pieces when it couldn't drink any more.

Guys, it seems you didn't actually enter the castle which is a pity because it's courtyard and the interiors are impressive. You are super lucky with the weather! 😀

2:20 is a Baszta Sandomierska (defensive turret/tower), and the Gate is Brama Bernardyńska (Bernardine Gate). The building covered in Ivy (not poisonous one) are Austrian barracks, were soldiers of Austro-Hungarian Empire were stationed when Krakow was under Austrian rule.

3:37. Those big boats (or barges) are actually an afloat restaurants. As for tours on Wisła (Vistula), at 3:25 you can see boats on the left. There is were you find a starting point for river trips down and up the river.

4:40. Kings lived Wawel, Presidents resided in Warszawa. And under Austrain rule Kraków was surrounded by multiple forts, it was basically a City fortress. The sad point is, those forts had guns pointed as much outwards as also inwards.

5:41 You can see a golden copula at the side of the Cathedral. At the breakout of WWII, when German army has advanced onto the city, the citizens poured a pitch over those golden plates, turning it black. Thanks to that action this copula has been left untouched to this day.

6:02 Those are ruins of old castle village, that was inside castle walls. There was old chapel there included. This area in older ages included blacksmith, stables, bakery, granary... all subsidiary building that was necessary for fulfilling basic daily needs.

In fact, the correct shot from the castle courtyard is not shown here at all. At 5:03 is a map shown. Yellow dot should be where you were standing, outside actual Royal Castle. Either you haven't take any shots of courtyard... or didn't walk to it at all... I hope you did walk inside, cos if you don't... you have missed a bit.

The actual gate to the caste courtyard is behind you Danegar at 5:44, next to the cathedral wall, on the right from Danegar and half hidden behind arcades.

About Grota Smoka (Dragons Cave). it is said (in rumors and hush tone), that this is a way that Polish Kings were bringing lovers to the castle, far from the prying eyes.

The dragon statue is gas operated. It blew fire. You have to pay for it by sending sms to the number shown on a plaque at the base of the statue.

The dragon legend. Not exactly like that. The dragon liked cattle and sheep, true. But it was not a Prince, Kings son, but a shoemaker Littletwine (Szewczyk Dratewka) that got an idea to saw a sulfur filling into a sheep carcass and feed it to the dragon. The dragon ate the sheep and become so thirsty that it drank and drank so much that he has trouble with moving, and then the shoemaker slaw it with a shoemaker needle.

Hey, a fun fact about the dragin's lair for you: in the middle ages a brothel operated there and teh stairs you went through were a half-secret passage made for the king and courtiers so they wouldn't have to get wet on the way xd the dragon story's far older tho

Hi! i'm so glad you liked the castle :) And so glad you liked Kraków as well, my city :D But the real thing about the dragon cave is that the marks on the walls inside, looks like the marks from "dragons" claws... So that's the reason from where the name of this cave came, but for the real they/re a marks from Knights swords. The caves (yep plural because there used to be multiple caves under the castle), were a King's "Night clubs". He was drinking there with his Knights, people.. they were bringing him Ladies... And sometimes the Knights were fighting here about ladies... so that's from where the marks on the walls came :D that's the real story about the cave and the "Dragon" :D
