This is my first NON-Game of Thrones video for this channel, detailing a legend about a dragon that reportedly lived in Poland over a thousand years ago. This is the story of the Wawel Dragon.

I actually have a little pewter statue of a "Wawel Dragon" that I got in Poland and never even knew the origin of the dragon story. Awesome video. Do more medieval myths/legends!

I wish I would have run across this video three years ago when I used this legend to teach my clay animation class to a group of middle school students. They wanted to animate a story with a dragon so I found this legend. I think our final projection would have been better (along with my pronunciation of all the words I slaughtered) is I had run across your video sooner. Thanks for sharing.

As someone who isn't Slavic I'd love to hear the story of Lech Czech and Rus. No one has done it well in English on youtube.

I love your interpretation of the Wawel Dragon's Legend. The historical account was particularly interesting as even though I'm Pole I've never actually investigated the legend that thoroughly. 🤓Great video!

I love this! Thanks, Charlie! When i was little, my grampa told us about the Terasque. For years after that, my brother would point behind me when I was swimming, "The Terasque! It's swimming behind you! It just submerged. There it is again! It's gaining on you!" I guess every old city has legends. But I think every single legend about a mythical creature and monster was invented by older brothers. 😎

If you did not know. The developers for the video game The Witcher series are from Poland, and most of their creatures are based on Polish folklore. My personal tale is being a Skubinski growing up in the south one person called me Steak Biscuit and I've been him ever since lol.

*The Kings name was Krak, in the popular version, and the boy was a shoemaker, and was called Dratewka

Hey Charlie. Nice video, nice of you to popularize Polish legends. There is also one other version for where the name of Kraków city comes form - it is from the fact that after the ravens (Bloodraven !!! :) that were driven to the dragon’s dead corps. In Polish the word for what a crow sounds is “kra”.

Krakow was not the first capital of Poland, but it was the greatest of them all as it was moved there by Casimir I the Restorer - as his nickname suggest he was one of the good ones.
I really like your pronouciation :)

Despite over 80% people declaring katolic here the pogan (pre-christian) roots are very strong, as I was born in a district named after a diety called Radgoszcz.
