I used to have the same "rules "with drum machines but I found that if I just recorded the machine in and locked the kicks to the grid it made a huge difference. The looser hats and claps kept the feel of the machine. Like you said its all personal preference. Good video!

that baseline is absolute fire!!!! This is making me think completely differently about how to approach Ableton and it’s something I remember yet forget to even do! Re sample and warp!

i love to take percussion stuff that's in a totally different pbm and sometimes different time signature, and just time warp quantize it to the current 4/4 tempo i work in to create these weird almost random rhythms, it's very fun

On windows it's Ctrl+space to play from your mouse-click in the arrangement view. And then Ctrl+j when you find your loop after warping so you can save on RAM when loading your project files.

After You set up the warp markers on audio clip, You can right click, and slice to new midi track, chose - create one slice per warp marker, there is an option to preserve warped timing on or off if you don't want the audio artifacts, this way it is slice to simplers, and You can rearrange the sounds how You want via midi.

Thanks for these videos Enrique. I don't make anything even close to resembling house music but always find something to learn from what you do.

Hey Ricky, thank you for all the great videos! You know what would be super interesting for me and maybe for others if you could explain how to turn some analog recordings into a track. I mean, I just don't understand the workflow of recording a jam session with analog gear and then how to work with it in Ableton. I guess there are some useful workflows and tips on how to turn a long jam into something useful in Ableton. I'm a dawless guy but would like to give Ableton an honest try, but I'm always feeling lost and don't know where to start. Maybe there are more people feeling the same? What do you think?

Loved that rattling warp residues in the final bassline. So organic and groovy.

A fun little trick I like to do on the Circuit Rhythm is quickly switch between my effects in my delay/reverb page to get a whiplash warping effect. Super cool grooves as a performance tool, found it by total mistake!

Loved what you were feeling on that last Bassline. ❤️

my homie Paul Birken is all about crazy exploration with his modular, and always with the rest of his gear. He understands music technology better than anyone i've ever met. GOOD ADVICE!

Soo good. I used to hate Ableton and Audio Warping because of latency issues, ruing my groove yadyeyadya. I just didn't know how to use it. I now erased my latency issues when recording in, (by going with lowest possible buffersize) and with Audio Warping I select the right algorithm for the job. Tones obvs work better for vocals and do make stuff sound good when used properly.

When Ricky puts on the Beeker-face (0:19) , no doubt the beat is dope

I love how Ricky makes mistakes in all his videos.
Often you can learn from them yourself.
It makes the videos more organic.
It makes the videos more amusing.
Just to name a few pros

This is a technique used on vocals a lot in tech house It's some glitchy goodness for sure. Nice video as always!

Nice video on a super useful tool. You should mention / investigate the different warp modes. They have a big effect on the sound and sometimes the best one isn’t the one that you’d expect

If you select the loop brace and then press the Up or Down arrow keys on your keyboard it should move the entire loop by an increment of itself (ex: if you have a one bar loop selected, up and down will move it by one bar)
