In this video, we’ll take a look at the history of North Korean isolationism; why Kim is now buddying up to Putin; and how this emerging relationship might impact North Korea’s economy.

North Korea produces urea (used in fertilizer) from coal. It is a incredibly expensive, labour intensive, process that is far cheaper to do using natural gas and oil. Since China has basically used it as a control lever previously, they'd be eager to switch their process to a natural gas/oil process (which is somewhat easy to do).
Even temporarily, Russia exports urea itself ordinarily too.

I do love measuring how well a country is doing on GDP per capita, and Economic "FREEDOM", rather than life expectancy or infant morality rates (which are still lower than the south, but not nearly at the same level)
