Why the British don't want to give up the Falkland Islands

The Falkland Islands: an archipelago of more than 700 islands located around 500 kilometers from the South American mainland. Nevertheless, the islands do not belong to nearby Argentina, no, they still belong to the United Kingdom.

The British and Argentines have been fighting over this archipelago for centuries. In the 1980s, a war even broke out between the two countries, which ended in an invasion by the British and claimed many lives. And even today, the dispute over the islands continues to cause conflict between the two states.

But how were the British able to conquer the islands, which are almost 13,000 kilometers away from their homeland, in the first place, why do they want to keep them at all costs and why could the conflict boil over again today? We take a look at all these questions in today's video!

For all the comments about how the islands will one day become Argentina you can dream on. Maybe Argentina should concentrate on helping their citizens who can’t afford food, heating or electricity. The thousands that are now homeless due to the complete incompetence of government after government who are sitting rich while thousands live in poverty. What should be one of the richest countries in the world is a socially and economically failed and dead state. The people of Argentina deserve more and I don’t blame the islanders for not wanting to be part of that 3rd world system. You voted for them, live with the consequences of your choice.

They are British because that’s what the Islanders want. Argentina is a result of colonialism I love how that is forgotten. As a Falkland descendant it astounds me each time I hear this.

I dont blame the islanders for picking Britain... its either become apart of a 3rd world countey, or be part of one which A) Ur heritage and family are apart off, and B) just far better in every aspect.

Britain didn't invade the islands, the Argentinians did! Britain liberated them from the Argentinians after they invaded.

Falkland Island is not for sale, the United Kingdom bought it a long time ago. Argentina's ambition is a waste of time. The English have already warned that they oppose any loss of sovereignty!

You forgot a "little" detail. The US helped England with satellite information to locate argentinian troops and they sunk a ship wit at least 600 argentinian troops!

La Cuestión de las Islas Malvinas, entendida como la disputa de soberanía entre la República Argentina y el Reino Unido por las Islas Malvinas, Georgias del Sur, Sandwich del Sur y los espacios marítimos circundantes, tiene su origen el 3 de enero de 1833 cuando el Reino Unido, quebrando la integridad territorial argentina, ocupó ilegalmente las islas y expulsó a las autoridades argentinas, impidiendo su regreso así como la radicación de argentinos provenientes del territorio continental. Desde entonces, la Argentina ha protestado regularmente la ocupación británica, ratificando su soberanía y afirmando que su recuperación, conforme el derecho internacional, constituye un objetivo permanente e irrenunciable.

La Cuestión Malvinas ha sido calificada por las Naciones Unidas como un caso de descolonización colonial especial y particular,   donde subyace una disputa de soberanía y por ende, a diferencia de los casos coloniales tradicionales, no resulta aplicable el principio de libre determinación de los pueblos.

En fecha 16 de diciembre de 1965 la Asamblea General adoptó la resolución 2065 (XX), a través de la cual reconoció la existencia de una disputa de soberanía entre la Argentina y el Reino Unido e invitó a ambos países a entablar negociaciones para encontrar una solución pacífica y definitiva a la controversia, teniendo en cuenta los intereses de los habitantes de las islas. Desde entonces, más de 40 resoluciones de la Asamblea General  y del Comité Especial de Descolonización han reiterado este llamado.

Además de las sucesivas resoluciones de la Asamblea General y el tratamiento de la Cuestión en el Comité de Descolonización, la Argentina cuenta con el firme respaldo de los países de América Latina a sus legítimos derechos de soberanía sobre las Islas Malvinas, Georgias del Sur y Sandwich del Sur y los espacios marítimos circundantes, y el llamado a la reanudación de negociaciones es compartido por la Organización de Estados Americanos, el G77 más China, y otros foros multilaterales y regionales.

La Cuestión de las Islas Malvinas fue, es y será un tema central para todos los argentinos, tal como lo expresa la Constitución Nacional mediante su Disposición Transitoria Primera: "La Nación Argentina ratifica su legítima e imprescriptible soberanía sobre las Islas Malvinas, Georgias del Sur y Sandwich del Sur y los espacios marítimos e insulares correspondientes, por ser parte integrante del territorio nacional. La recuperación de dichos territorios y el ejercicio pleno de la soberanía, respetando el modo de vida de sus habitantes y conforme a los principios del Derecho Internacional, constituyen un objetivo permanente e irrenunciable del pueblo argentino."🇦🇷
