Yamaha Drive 2 QuieTech Golf Cart - Top Speed Test

In this video we see just how fast a stock Yamaha Drive 2 Quietech EFI golf cart will go just turning the governor up all the way. In a previous video I show how to adjust the governor, now it's time to do some testing. I do not recommend turning your governor up as far as it will go, I only did it in this video as a test. I will turn the governor back down once we have finished our experiment.

Yamaha rates the max power of these 357cc motors at 3200 rpm. If you are going to futz with the governor, install a tach temporarily (they are under $10 on-line). 20.5" tires @ 2800 rpm will give you 18 mph steady, 20 mph foot-to-the-floor @ 3000 rpm without lift, special gears or kits. Keep a safety margin. Replacement motors are north of $2K and you are running rear-wheel-only brakes designed for turf speeds.

I work at a new/used golf cart dealership and we are a Yamaha dealer and we turn up the governor's on almost ebery golf cart but leave a 1/4 inch of thread and thats the sweet spot wont over rev engine and will get the new lsvs up to the 25-29 mph that some of the small beach towns around our area requires a lsv street leagal golf cart to go and they do test the speed st the dmv depending what side of town and what town you live in especially if ots one fonthe little beach towns. my personal golf cart was a golf course cart and its 7 years since i refurbished and built it into a lsv street legal cart turned all thebway up on Governor and have not had one single issue with kver reving or motor wearinf out due to adjusting the governor. Just dont remove it internally completely that woll blow up these motors and also drill put that little screen on the tail end of the exhaust cause it clogs up with carbon and will caus your golf car tto run loke crap eventually guarantee sonwe droll them pit off ebery cart new and used.

I have a 72 Yamaha G1 my Governor stud broke off, is there any way to JB weld that stud back in and disconnect the tightness so that that arm can still swing freely so I can use the golf cart I know I won't have a governor no more which is fine

I left about 3/4” of thread and my cart (2019 efi) goes 22mph with the windshield on.

I have a 2020 drive 2 lifted with 23s and ive seen it top out a time or two at 23, wish it was faster, chaseing dogs stay right with me
