US tech giant Amazon recently joined major groups such as Google and Microsoft in ordering its employees to come back to the office full time. They are part of the growing trend of companies trying to limit remote working. But the flexibility that was built into working life through the Covid-19 pandemic has become a sticking point for many employees, some even signing their contracts based on its conditions. People are forgetting about cost of living and physical presence. A critical component of your compensation is based on where you live and you coming to the office. When you tell your company that you don’t need to come into the office and your job can be done from anywhere, why should that company pay you local, market rate salary? Might as well move your role to the sister office in Malaysia or Bulgaria and pay 2/3 less
