How to download and import AUDIO files in GarageBand iOS

How to download WAV/MP3 files and import them in to your GarageBand iPad and GarageBand iPhone projects.

In this video, I show you how to use the very cool Safari download manager in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 to download a loop, sample or other audio file, and then import it in to GarageBand iOS to use in your project.

Here's how it's done:
2. Tap the download button and the file will be downloaded using the Safari download manager in iOS 13
3. Set up your GarageBand project to ensure the tempo (BPM) is matched and there is enough space for the loop or audio file
4. Tap the "Loop" icon and go to "Files"
5. Tap the "Browse items from the Files app" button
6. Navigate to the "Downloads" folder under "Favourites"
7. Tap the file to copy it to the "GarageBand File Transfer" folder
8. Drag the audio file in to your GarageBand project

Saves so much time and valuable space - I used to save to the cloud-drive and then browse to that. The thumbnail for the file .wav, mp3, etc that GB assigns in the list of imported files will also play the loop when you click on it - prior to that I was forever dragging files into the track view whose names I hadn’t made more meaningful to see what they were - it’s amazing what GB has buried under the hood and why guys like yourself are so necessary. GB was next to useless before.
Now I’ve had to upgrade to a 128GB iPad because the 16GB iPhone was no longer any use with all this info from you. It’s so appreciated mate that it made the purchase a no-brainer. I’ve not touched my Kronos or laptop for nearly 6 months due to all the AU plugins, instruments and effects - I could waffle on for hours in gratitude for the tips and tutorials - I probably have done too, in 6/8 timing. That’s where GB is lacking now for me, although there are tricks, a bit more resolution in the roll would be useful, 96ths - mainly for syncing iTunes samples - ah bugger, I’m waffling.

Hi, I just got a new macbook air yesterday as I will be producing some audiobooks. Unfortunately the garageBand looks different than yours :-(
When I open the loop there is no "files" but also not apple loops, nor music. Rather what I see here is Instruments and Genre.
The file format is .m4a of the file I am trying to import.
Would you mind making a new tutorial with the updated program version?

Hi Pete! A fellow IPAD GaragaBand composer/musician here. Been following your channel for quite a while now and i am impressed with the level of simple, honest, straightforward kind of presentation of your work. From one user to another, I have a question, however: I constantly run across a GarageBand systemic bug which is pretty annoying, namely the split sections inside a track behaving as if they weren’t split. For instance, a guitar track which I split into four parts, for transitions purposes, will create a problem sometimes by moving all 4 split sections to the right/left whenever i only meant to move one or deleting all 4 splits instead of 1. The only workaround i managed to find so far is to have one of the 4 parts split yet again, then the splits start to behave independently again. While this is a short-term fix, i had situations with lengthy and complex tracks where i accidentally deleted and didn’t notice doing so sections of a track and then closed the song, saving the new format, without some parts. So, long story short: did you run across this problem and if so, what is the way you handled it? Thanks for the feedback.

Hi, I asked this on a different video but I think asking here is better because it’s more related to this. But do you have any clue as to why when I import my track it sounds distorted? I am using a the focusrite Scarlett interface and have monitoring on so I can hear myself. When all of my devises are disconnected, it sounds just fine so I know it’s not the track themselves. Please help!
