I don't think it's overhyped. It's an absolutely beautifully crafted camera that is relatively easy and a pleasure to always have with you. With fun film simulations and superb IQ, it's quite unique in the camera market today.
However, I do think it's overpriced and too difficult to obtain, which is why I bought a Sony A7Cii instead. And I am very pleased with it.

I've gotten lucky X100 times because of this camera so it's worth every penny and yes, worth the hype.

I walked into a store and they had it available!

So it’s over hyped but it’s also a fun, powerful camera huh? What other cameras pack a 40MP, Fuji color rendition, built in flash with a sharp 35 f2 lens?

I have the X100VI, and after using Nikon, Sony, Lumix FF, and before them Olympus 4/3. Photography is photography but somehow the way Fujifilm have laid out the dials for SS/ISO, & the Iso dial, it takes a bit of messing around, reading the manual, and searching on the internet for answers from other people that have struggled. Obviously you still have the P, S, A & M. & the ability to manually control everything. The difficult part came in when having the ISO set to Auto at the three custom settings 1, 2 & 3, min Iso, min shutter & Max Iso. I watched several YouTube videos of experienced photographers and I took much of their advice..I do not often use ISO as whatever parameters you have all the variables set to you get an accurate idea in the LCD or the EVF just what the picture exposure is going to be like. One thing I did not like is when the ISO dial was turned around to the C position, and then you have to press the front control dial, In my case Aperture F, Exp Comp and Iso., the back dial I set to SS program. I did not like having the ISO at number two so I got rid of that and put only F & Iso & None. Too many variables having to push the button one off to the other and then also turn the dial. It is too easy to accidentally crank the ISO up or down when on the front command dial as opposed to the physical dial on the right. Wind street shooting I couldn't always think too much about all three variables as you have to think quick, so I would generally keep it on P mode. Make sure that the inbuilt flash is off. For some reason when I was using the program SS it just didn't seem to respond properly and then the aperture in the viewfinder was in the blue color, so I had to crank the ISO up beyond F-16 so it would go back into white but it would stick around aperture 2.0. Everything is still a learning curve with me but I am finding this camera very very challenging. I would eventually like to move to the GFX100S II. Medium Format. I wonder if they also have all these dials to confuse the hell out of us. Anyway please comment or correct me or if I have helped you in any way that's great

I have an XT5 with a kit lens and an XF 35mm f1.4. For some reason I feel like I can never connect with it the same as my old X100V. It seems like no matter what, I always prefer the photos I take on the X100V.

Leaf shutter, high speed flash, built in ND filter. Shoot at f2.0 in bright sunlight with fill in flash at 1/1000 sec. No way a XT5 can do so.
But if you never ever use flash then there are other options

there is no options with leafshutter and a f2 lens at 23mm

It is overhyped I own it and the GR III is just as hard to find. The x 100 v pushed the demand for all premium compacts.

Fujifilm x100vi is the best camera, hence why it’s overhyped. Geez

So the reason it’s overhyped is because it’s out off stock?
