I miss the barehanded executions and the shield skill tree. I personally loved the shield skill tree. Tying it all together used to be satisfying. Weird to me why nit instead keep all original gow skills and add on all the new skills. Also the 3 hit head shot throw caused an explosion it was a nice reward for being precise during combat. Just weird to me.

If you get hit by a yellow attack / are stunned, you can snap out of it by using a runic attack. This means that any quick-fire runic attack that stuns your opponent, allows you to interrupt your enemies combo. Also it feels nice to do as revenge.

One of my biggest regrets was basically ignoring all the “technique” abilities for each weapon that involves using the triangle button through my entire playthrough. I’m going to play through again and focus on it specifically this time around just to get better at using them and enjoy a different experience. To be fair I could attribute some of my ignorance to choosing to use Lunda’s armor set as soon as I got it and primarily used a pure poison, bare handed combat style along with my stonewall shield. Very unique play style and I’m excited to try something completely different this time.

I love parrying so much I just wish i got better at it earlier on in the game. Chaining parries together against the Berserker bosses is probably one of the most satisfying feelings in the game

I've found the guardian shield to be the better option agains the berserker warriors, because with an initial parry and an immediate follow up attack you can interrupt anything that was going to follow.

The stonewall blocks yellow attacks as long as you are not fully charged so it is different than the dauntless and can be better against some bosses that use a lot of yellow ring attacks

The dauntless sheild does send projectile back but it is in the direction that youre standing. All you have to do is parry the incoming projectile

Here's another helpful tip since I noticed that you haven't gotten all the skills their additional benefits. Go into the Practice arena when you unlock its world and spam the abilities until you unlock their additional benefits. The enemies are infinite and your health is infinite too so you don't have to worry about running out of either until you have to decide if you want more element damage or a faster time to freeze or burn your foes with your special attacks.

Heavy attack + heavy attack into serpent’s snare is hella underrated

The Valor heal rage option should be all I-frames. Would make it usable

Guardian shield has one amazing thing if you ask me. After you parry, when kratos slam the ground or throwback the damage he is still invulnurable to damage, also this throwback interrupt enemy bosses attack. So most of the time you parry/deal damage/not gonna take damage while throwback damage like other shields/interrupt enemy. I think it is way better than other ones by its just me😊

I love that they gave the option to turn off skills. I kept recalling my axe accidentally trying to fight barehanded and once i turned it off i was able to beat the boss.

Runic attacks were pretty disappointing in ragnarok, they felt like they had as much or less weight than a regular weapon combo, ended up not even using them right after I got the spear

Try bare hand when weapon damage and stun is low, also learn to aim at feet to stun enemies, making them fall, to then punish

i personally think that the guardian shield is a LOT better than the dauntless in almost every situation.
while the dauntless has an on-demand "retaliation" it has just slightly too much delay (even if used instantly after a parry) to interrupt a lot of enemy's (esp. boss') attack-chains, while the guardian shield's R1 retaliation does interrupt those chains (not all, but very many of them).
also, the stun-dmg from shield-retaliation is so meager (at least on gmgow) that its not really smth to look for when picking your preferred shield.

only "downside" of the guardian shield is, that it only has DEF as a stat while all other shields have one additonal stat, allthough its such a small difference that i prefer the potential interrupt from guardian in almost every situation.

if you are good enough with your parries, all shields but guardian and dauntless become completely useless too imo which is quite sad.

I used the tower shield for most of the game, until I got the Guardian shield back. Easily the best (and best looking) shield in the game imo. Being able to counterattack after every parry, as well as having two different options for a counterattack, is just unbeatable.

It's so satisfying running in, charging up permafrost, immolation or maelstrom, applying status effects, then bodying a boss with skill after skill then rage out to melt their health bar

Using a runic attack at the wind up of a red ring attack can interrupt it. Its wonderful

After you parry if you hit r1 right after and do the shield bash it will stop almost every enemy from going the follow up attacks so you don't have to parry more. Helpful on the Berserkers so far the most, for me anyways.

4:34-4:38, can anyone pls tell me what are those two semicircle rings charging up does (the ones that are on the left attached to the weapon charging gauge) and how to activate or get those in the game?
