I think the reason Porsche keeps the twisting "key" to the left of the steering wheel is because it's a callback to classic Porsche race-cars. In LeMans, for example, the driver would jump in the driver seat and then be able to turn the car on with one hand, while using the other hand to put it into gear. TL;DR - racing tradition.

I've never been a huge Porsche fan, but that interior is literally perfect. I like the physical dials and the fake key ignition, it's just satisfying and familiar.
