Thanks Shannon. Very helpful. I have a rescue who is nearly 2 but we train loose leash walking in the same way. ❤

Super helpful honestly and a reminder that puppies need short sessions

Super interesting and well presented. Question. When and how do u make that puppy exercise, run, burn its energy, or even socialize with other dogs?

Thanks so much 🎉 I didn't quite a bit of this sort of thing inside with our 4 pups ready for adoption. Now I'll do this with them on the leash outside. I want them as turnkey as possible for their forever families when they get adopted. ❤

To my eyes she looks like a young Kathy Bates. 😄

My dog knows how to sit but as soon as I give her a treat she’s right back up what should I do?

Great information. But how do I walk my puppy in an urban setting when I’m not specifically training and she needs to do her business? She will be pulling, sniffing and picking things up into her mouth.

how can I get my dog more comfortable with walking? Every time I try to walk her she gets scared by every noise she hears and would stop walking or just sit there not moving. I've been trying to make her more familiar with the outdoors but she still hasn't got used to it. She is currently 2 years old and I've been training her since she was a puppy but she is still scared of walking outdoors.

What collar/harness do you recommend to stop a puppy/dog from pulling while walking?
Thank you!

Are you constantly feeding her treats or just luring her with the treat? What if a dog doesn't care about the treats?

I’d love to know how to do this with small dogs. Do I walk bent over all the way to the ground to keep the treat to their nose or do you have an alternate option?

I have a 1 year old 20 lb mixed breed rescue dog. It's been 6 weeks of attempting the loose leash walk using a slip lead. I do the stop, turn around, treats, etc. It takes me an hour to go around the block using treats, stops turnarounds and so many corrections it's insane. 42 days later and there is zero improvement. My next step is the e/collar. Any advice?

My dog is not interested in food! How to deal with this?

I totally get why short training sessions close to home are better for a puppy than long walks but I have a one year old rehomed Labrador who has more energy than a young puppy. .Is there some way I can balance giving him enough exercise with improving his loose leash walking? Hal

Do you have any good books you recommend for new GSD owners? Getting a puppy next year and I want to learn everything I can from puppy to old dog?

The most important spot to train her before her walk is going out the door

Hi! I tried these tips and my 17 week puppy did well except we had issues with him biting my hand for the treat when walking. Is there any tips to correct this?

My 5mo puppy is really super good on walks with me. She rarely pulls, and I can give a little tug and she will go back to loose. But, yesterday at the Vet’s office…she just went crazy and was super excited. I had treats and a Martindale collar, seemed to have nooo effect!. How do you get a puppy to behave with strangers or other people - especially if she gets rewarded by not behaving =(, by the strangers

I like the core fundamentals but trainers need to get breed specific with this. My stock dogs do not respond to this sort of training at all. They need physical cues for the lines they don't cross. So I use a hockey stick to show the line where heel is. 20 mins later perfect heel, no treats. They're designed that way. A hound, no chance that training nor this training will yeild immediate response from them and their noses, you have to be more stubborn than them and that's just the truth of it. This training works really well for family dog breeds, (doodles, labs, ect) so I like the core fundamentals but it would not surprise me if there was a lot of "this isn't working" response to it. When I train I train individuals and to the breed. There is no generalized trianing or group classes.... Those just don't work.

What treats are you using? My puppy is not that very interested in any of the treats I am using. He can’t focus on me like this like he really wants that treat.
