In this 13th and final episode of learning to kitesurf, I go through how to control your kite and ride in overpowered conditions. As a beginner kite surfer this is an important skill to have to ensure that you always stay safe on the water, especially when kite surfing in strong winds.

Good tips. One more that I find not many people know is that you can ride in the opposite direction from the kite when crazy overpowered.
Riding straight downwind can work, but at some point when that becomes too difficult to control, you can ride on the opposite direction from the kite.
You can control your power and speed by choosing the angle to ride. The more you ride away from the kite the less power.
Good to practice in moderate conditions (for a second or two). Then you will have a 'get home tool' for when a squall hits. As you approach the beach, flag the kite. You must flag, because at that level of overpowered, stopping is not an option and attempting a normal beach landing is not safe.

Awesome series and very informative. I like the way you explained everything with no unnecessary information. I'm a beginner, I had a few lessons last summer and got to the water starts. Looking forward for the next season here in Australia to try your tips and hopefully become independent soon :). Cheers

When I was a teenager I was normal kiting on the beach and always saw the big kites go around with boards. This year I made the decision to start (when the weather is a little bit better 😁), I bought the gear and now watched the series. Very informative and can't wait to put it to practice 👌

Something to add: Riding slow and keeping tention on lines/bar.

Riding slow helps you manage more wind. When a kite is moving more quickly, it's efficiency will go up thus pull harder, by riding slow you keep this from happening. Also riding slower helps you "dig into the water" better, and you can lock up the board fully, using your board as a big water scoop.

Keeping tention on the lines/bar will help stabilize the kite so the gusts don't hit as hard. Don't overdo it ofcourse, just don't let you kite fully hang into the power lines.

Why you call it kitesurfing when actually kiteboarding? 🤔
