We are used to running command line applications with no Graphical UI at all. But did you know that you can just as well run applications with a graphical user interface, like Chrome, Firefox, Tor Browser, Gimp, etc... with Docker... on OS X!

Docker can be used to run more than just headless, command line applications... we can just as well run browsers or any other graphical app. So check out this demo and let me know what you think about it!

I think one important detail to note here is this only works because a GUI application was already created for docker to work on linux. (Correct me if I'm wrong here)

The question in my mind is "why/when would I do this instead of just downloading the original GUI application"? I would still prefer to download the application and then delete it immediately afterwards if it was just a temporary thing.

What are the security implications of doing this?

For anyone like me, socat at port 6000 would fail if xquartz is already running. Quit/kill xquarts before running socat at port 6000.
Thanks for the video 👍

Thank you for your interesting info. I just want to inform (and ask, actually) to not pronounce OS X as OS 'Ex', it is just OS Ten.

The "X" is the Roman Numeral for ten. It may look a little redundant when written out, but when you see "OS X 10.6.6", you can say "Oh. Ess. Ten."
There are some who will defend the "Ex" pronunciation passionately. Even people who have been using Macs and OS X for many years. They're wrong. Sorry, but they are.

Take some time and read about the macOS history and you will find out about all the reasoning behind why X is the Roman Numeral for Ten, and you should say it OS 'Ten'.
