Discover the Roadmap to Engaging PowerPoint Presentations

None of us wants to be the person who delivers boring presentations that put people to sleep. In this video I'll share with you simple techniques to give your PowerPoint presentation a perfect flow to captivate your audience and keep them engaged.

Creating great PowerPoint slides doesn't have to be difficult if you follow a few simple rules and some guidelines.

Use Roadmaps instead of a table of contents in your PowerPoint presentations
Use Infographics to indicate the progress that was made in the presentation. This way the audience knows where the end is and which remaining topics they can expect to learn from you.

Put Essential text only on slide and use a supporting Infographic or Roadmap
It's practical for you as the presenter to have everything you want to say on a slide. But the audience can't read the text on a crowded slide and listen to you at the same time. This will draw their attention away from you, the presenter.

Take advantage of the Reuse Slides Feature in PowerPoint
Avoid copying and pasting slides if you want to use slides from an existing presentation. Instead apply Reuse Slides from the Home tab in PowerPoint. It's faster and safer!

Leila, I've been teaching the Microsoft Office applications for over 20 years to students in higher education, and now, in my retirement, I'm working with high school students. After all these years and thousands of lessons and exams, I learn something new from you almost every time I watch one of your videos. When I have a student struggling with a concept or skill, I have them watch your presentation on that skill and they nearly always have that "Aha" moment teachers love to see. Thanks for all you do!

Took your advice - got recognized by global leadership. I recently had to prepare a overview showcasing a program I’ve been building to enable sales teams. Long story short, a conference of 200+ people went so well that word got up to the tops of the business and I think it’s about to help me secure my next position because other parts of the business now want to implement. People were really impressed with the look and delivery. Thank you, seriously.

Leila, I am a university educator, and this year you SAVED MY LIFE. It is very difficult to keep students engaged through lectures on Zoom, and I never know if they fall asleep if their camera is off. Your tips have helped me make engaging slides quickly, and my students always give me positive feedback, which tells me they are following along. Please, keep posting videos on presentations and PowerPoints!

I have said this before, but I think it is worth saying again - Excellent presentation and video. I have spent the better part of a month checking out all of your videos about Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, even your Finance videos. All of them are great! I have signed up for your Excel Training course and I am currently about 50% complete. I can not say enough good things about your work. You have the ability to explain procedures, techniques, and concepts in such a way that they are easy to understand and remember. I really appreciate all you are doing. You are truly a Master of Education, regardless of the topic. Thank you.

Great tips, Leila. Besides well designed layout, graphics and structure for a presentation I would like to add another proven base rule for PPTs - it‘s called 10 - 20 - 30, which means maximum 10 slides per 20 minutes with no less than 30 points font size for text. Thus as a presenter I am forced not to REPEAT the slides‘ contents but to EXPLAIN them. Which in turn keeps up the attention of the audience.

I am an architect and environmental consultant. I have always attempted to use visual images photos & graphs (I'm a visual guy!) and limited the use of text or lists and never just "read" out the text of any slide. Why listen to the presenter when you can just read the slide? I am a passionate speaker so I wanted to "add" to the information on the slide to enhance its intended meeting. However, the organization of the topics towards a holistic goal has always been challenging. I like this visual "roadmap" idea and will check to simpleslides. Thank you for another great video:)

This is some awesome information thanks fro sharing. A few years ago i managed a movie theatre and we had monthly employee meetings. Most of my employees were teenagers and keeping them engaged was a hard task. What I found to also work well was adding trivia questions with pictures or small video clips during the presentation. This kept them from reaching for their phones due to boredom. I also chose different background images with bright colors on each topic slide to keep them expecting something new to look forward to. I miss my time there.

You're just superb. I'm going through your course on unlock VBA and visually effective Excel dashboards. The way you explain things is really nice. I just hope you introduce PowerPoint course too with same intensity and having such depth. Thanks a lot

Hi Leila.. another super video and great tip. Was not aware of Simple Slides before today. Worth mentioning that it is very affordable.. even their premium access.. a one time (reasonable) fee for the entire library and perpetual updates. And, there are less expensive options for those satisfied with more limited access. Save time and leverage off the creativity and consistency offered in this product.. seems like a killer deal to me. Thanks for sharing it. As always.. learned something new and interesting today at your channel. Thanks and Thumbs up!!
