As a European, tipping culture in the US is so dumb, like why do the customers have to pay to make up for employers being cheap?

They really should just pay people, tipping is 100% used to keep spending down for the company and makes the consumer pay their salary.

In Japan it’s actually an insult for you to tip the waiters/waitresses

Yes, the NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL have players from all around the world and the champion of each league is undoubtedly “the best team in the world”. However, since they are *domestic* leagues lacking actual international competition, it is simply disingenuous to call them “World Champions”.

Argentina are World Champions of football. Germany are World Champions of basketball. Japan are World Champions of baseball. Canada are World Champions of hockey.

It’s fine to say the Chiefs are the best football team in the world, but they are Super Bowl Champions, not World Champions.

Mandatory tipping is actually quite stupid.
And it shows how the upper class (business owners) have made it the customer’s duty to pay the workers’ wages.
It’s absolutely mind blowing for us who don’t live in America.

For a Pole all of them are weird.
1. The employer should be the ones paying the salaries, I don't want to be responsible for the staff's well being
2. Yes, there are sports in which the US is very dominant, still it is very arrogant to claim that the US champion is the world champion
3. Depends on how you interact with the culture, of course there are people that embrace their heritage by speaking the language, visiting the country and cultivating traditions but there are a lot of people who just claim that they're French because their Great Grandfather passed through Paris once

How can it be normal that a customer pays the salary of a waiter?

When he said" no one else has it"(tipping waiters) was the most American thing I have ever heard

Tipping culture used to be good because it would encourage good customer service. Now, you still get crappy service and are also expected to tip.

As someone who has lived in the States, the tipping culture is definitely weird... When I go out to eat, American servers often provide service that is considered among the worst globally because they expect to receive a tip. Having been to 27 countries, I've observed that servers around the world genuinely appreciate all tips they receive, unlike in America. There is a need to establish fair wages and reconsider the tipping culture, to be honest...

as an Chinese, once i reject a tipping to a shop so the workers beat me up, i was so confused because i was not aware of this culture, so i called all the people in china town and they crashed the review section, telling their white friend that the shop is horrible, some teens throw rocks at the store, and one month later the shop closed up and was replaced by a chinese store that don't charge tips, and i feel revenged and think that they deserve it since i'm not aware of this culture, even though now i am i still feels satisfied thinking what i did.

Being a service staff in the US is similar to a typical sales job. From what i know, the average tip is about 20% of the total bill so the faster you are the more you'll earn i supposed. In singapore, almost all restaurants charge customers 10% extra for service fees in the bill. Although they do pay you an hourly wage, most restaurants also has a rule that the tips you received should be put into the tip box and will be split evenly among all the service staff at the end of each month. Some restaurants will just take everything tho.

In the uk I’m starting to see more and more restaurants put on a ‘service charge’ which you have to ask to remove it

Tipping saves the customer money because menu prices would go up 30% or more if employers had to match the salary increase that waiters get from tips. Whether it is a tip or not the money still has to come out of the customer's pocket
