Good review. Blood got it so right. Froza 7 took gameplay mods out, things that are meant to let people play the way they want, a staple of the series, and they made them a random drop. Fools.

This is an outstanding review. This is the first time that I've seen the series' current trend of forced "homologation" being mentioned. It ruined a lot of Forza 6 as any car you drive becomes generic as it is artificially boosted to be equal to every other car in an event. This is the antithesis of automotive culture and removes the celebration of different automotive engineering ethos. It is odd that such a fantastic series has grown this cancerous lump that so strongly affects the single player campaign, to its detriment. Kudos to the writer/reviewer of this video for mentioning it. Fantastic work. No other publication has bothered to even mention it. What's the point of racing a Porsche and a Ferrari if their differences are negated by artificial "performance point upgrades". It might make the casuals happy but it has completely unsold me on the game (and I have every iteration of the series so far).

This is disgusting racing game design done by a committee & completely focused on loot crates. Gross. The intricately detailed cars themselves have just become nothing more than generic avatars for microtransactions and loot box expenditure.

Thanks for calling out the loot boxes (ahem prize crates). Stripping a feature and locking it behind a random system is garbage, and sounds like they aim to get people hooked on them before selling them like an evil genius of a drug dealer.

To be fair, the issue of recieving an already tuned up car as a reward has been there for a long time.
I'm playing through Forza 4 at the moment and it too always has its reward cars within 2 points of the upper class limit, a.k.a any upgrade bumps you at the bottom of a higher class.

I did not know about the ability to increase race length. I'm glad you mentioned it because it has been one of my main gripes with this series for quite some time. That and the Forza EmuWheel software some hero on the internet has made that makes any you have work with the Forza games on PC might actually push me over the edge despite having all but written it off at first.

It's kind of baffling that the powers that be don't learn their lesson with this series. Forza 5 was not that long ago and it got critically panned for having the most heinous DLC cars one could imagine as they cherry picked almost every desirable car behind a paywall. And somehow they did not learn that microtransaction systems that interfere with the game are a horrible idea. I've played every Forza & Forza Horizon to death starting from Forza Motorsport 2 but this game is where I draw the line and will not buy it.

Spent a month playing the game to finish the career. It was just too long. Seems like FM7 was what GRID 2019 and Dirt 4 learned from in terms of length. All 3 games should've been half as long. Who has time for a 3-hour endurance race without mid-session save?

Great review, please continue to create reviews that take economy and design around these economies into account. I hate this kind of practice and being informed of it prior to purchase helps me better determine if a game is right for me. For those that really hate this new loot box trend, the best thing to do is be well informed and refuse to give money to devs that design around these practices. Please continue to inform us on this and doing what you do best.
