Official audio for Desmond's Dekker seminal version of Jimmy Cliff's anthemic song, which reached number 2 in the UK charts on 3 October 1970.

the recording's rhythm track was produced in Jamaica by leading hit-maker Leslie Kong, with vocal and horn overdubs arranged by British music legend, Vic Keary at his famed Chalk Farm studio in London.

The song provided the title for Desmond's best-selling album, released by Trojan Records soon after the record punctured the British charts on 22 August 1970.

it was also recorded that year by the singer's Trojan label-mate, Jimmy Cliff, whose version failed to chart, but featured in the Jamaican cult movie, "The Harder They Come", and later "Speed 2: Cruise Control", Will Smith's "Hitch" and the 2012 Aardman Animation film, "The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!".

Desmond's more polished version was also used in the soundtrack of the 2010 British film, "Made in Dagenham" and more recently featured in the acclaimed documentary, "Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Records" (from 2018).

Subsequent versions of the song include renderings by The Cimarons, Italian pop singer Sabrina (Sabrina Salerno), Stiff Little Fingers, French singer Johnny Hallyday and by Samuel E. Wright (as Sebastian the crab) in the motion picture, "The Little Mermaid".

YOU CAN GET IT IF YOU REALLY WANT LYRICS
Written by Jimmy Cliff
Published by Universal-Island Music Ltd.

You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
But you must try, try and try, try and try
You'll succeed at last, yeah

Persecution you must bear
Win or lose you've got to get your share
You’ve got your mind set on a dream
You can get it, though hard it may seem now

You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want, yeah
But you must try, try and try, try and try
You'll succeed at last
Don’t you know it

Listen, Rome was not built in a day
Opposition will come your way
But the hotter the battle, you see
Is the sweeter the victory now

You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
But you must try, try and try, try and try
You'll succeed at last

Well, you can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
You can get it if you really want
But you must try, try and try, try and try
You'll succeed at last

You can get it if you really want
Don’t you know it
You can get it if you really want
Don’t I show it
You can get it if you really want
Don’t you know

I grew up on an orchard that grew fruit.we rented half of the upstairs of a converted barn. About 60% of the migrant workers were from Jamaica. I used to go down to the camp barracks at night and listen to all the old records they brought with them.

I never knew why this song wasn't up there with the likes of Jackie Wilson's "Your love keeps lifting me higher" or Sam Cook's "Cupid" in terms of the greatest songs from the 1960's. Those are all my go to's for beating a bad mood.
