Without Desmond, would Peter Tosh and Bob Marley even existed? RIP in Glory!

First heard this song as a kid, on a VHS of Drugstore Cowboy. I spent the whole night rewinding it and listening to it over and over again.

I am 17 years old, in the year 2024, living in Connecticut, and this song is still as glorious as ever. Just goes to show how enjoyable this music is.

I was like a bunch of other idiots before you tube who thought the lyrics were, " Wake up in the morning , same thing for breakfast ", boy we were dumb back then ! Ha ! I was 17 .. 71 now and still love it ! Here goes ...

The era when music was about spirit, soul and performance. Not about machines and electronics. Desmond was truly a great artist.

Love the bass. Take me back to the 70s. Better days than the 80s 90s and now.

I am blessed to be born in 1962. Grew up around all Reggae Motown drunk & stOned parents in the UK. What a free & funky childhood with no rules except come home when the street lights come on. This is one of my favourite early memories of dancing at a block party with all my neighbours to this beautiful song :)

What a talent! As great as the record is (and that's a gross understatement), this live performance tops it in every way. What an incredible, dynamic performer. Let us not forget that band...wow.

My grandad introduced me to this in the 90s when I was a little child and I loved it. Here to reminisce of the good times with my big G. R.I.P grandad you legend!

Voice-wise in the world of reggae music Desmond Dekker is the untouchable
Bob Marley was the most charismatic and had the most lyrically potent reggae catalogue, along with Jimmy Cliff.
As an Individual song "The Israelites" cannot be contained!

A BIG star, if not one of the biggest of his era. The word "dynamo" comes to mind.

You know people today don't realise how powerful a crossover music Ska was. EVERYBODY loved it. You'd go to a ska club and there'd be blacks, whites, mods, rockers you name it. Yes there was violence outside but rarely inside and it wasn't racial, usually over some girl who'd been playing men. It was a truly unifying British culture.
