The casting for this film was phenomenal. The portrayals of Dick Best and Admiral Halsey in particular really stood out for me.

Dont listen to the critics on this movie. While the movie certainly isn't perfect, and obviously isn't Oscar material, it is a really good movie that is entertaining, well made, and does a great job remembering the heroes of Midway. I know the CGI caught some criticism but i honestly thought there was no problems with it. It may not be the best CGI, but the negative reviews of the CGI definitely were not fair. The CGI got the job done and the actor's performances were top notch, the direction was top notch giving plenty of drama and cinematic action, and was probably one of the most historically accurate war movies i've ever seen, if not the most accurate. The level of historical detail at times is incredible, especially the scenes regarding the Submarine USS Nautilus.

If i had to choose between an average movie with really good CGI and average acting, or a really good movie with average CGI and good acting, I'm going to choose the really good movie every time. Let's not forget this was the largest budget for an independent movie ever, and so they didn't have alot of resources. They got incredible actors like Woody Harrelson, Dennis Quaid, Aaron Eckhart in supporting roles. Not counting Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson, and Luke Evans. Even Nick Jonas was really good in this movie surprisingly. Much rather they spend the money on acting rather than CGI.

The movie did a really good job of telling the story. Made it clear how disadvantaged the us navy was in the pacific. And they disparately needed to do some serious damage to the IJN before they counter attack. The IJN has the upper hand, their counter attack in full force would’ve dealt a deadly blow.

The first few waves of attacks were not looking good. Displayed great courage, but ineffective and took huge losses. One squadron even got lost. The dive bombers were their last hope.

The acting was spot on. You can see every actor and actress poured their very best efforts to make this as authentic as possible. I mean even Nimitz looked extremely convincing whilst the young actors all played 1940s young men very well with their accents and debonaire style

This movie, though it doesn’t have the greatest final touches to CGI or whatever, really brought to light the historical men and women who fought this battle and made it the biggest turning point for WWII. If it weren’t for them, god knows what this world will be. This movie recognizes and really reflects all the effort, bravery, dedication, fear, pain, and victories of such a dramatic and powerful war.
If this movie does not applaud the heroism and courageous acts, then by all means, give it shit. But it doesn’t. The directors and producers, actors and actresses, editors, script writers, and fact checkers all worked incredibly hard in order to brig to light some of the influential men and women in the Battle of Midway as well as each minute detail of what it takes to grow and be a hero as well as the pain and struggles they had to get over.
Aside from the battle, this movie also brings family, friendships, stress of doing what’s right, calculating a battle plan in order to win and have people survive, making it all more real than just shooting and flying airplanes around.
Sorry I rambled, I just love history, production, being a producer and getting information right to display to an audience, watching and reading things for fun as well as critical analysis.

If that is meant to be the USS Enterprise's attack on the Marshall Islands on 1st Feb 1942, it wasn't Zeros that intercepted the SBDs, they were Mitsubishi A5M 'Claudes'- older pre-war fighters that had fixed undercarriages- and they still managed to bring down three of the SBDs, including the Squadron-Commander, Lt-C Halstead Hopping.

I mean... the explosion wasnt *that* big, but... gotta say, the movie was a genuine surprise both in its accuracy and writing. Highly recommend.
