Don Page - What Exists?

Lots of things exist. But what is so absolutely fundamental in that it cannot be further reduced into anything more fundamental, but other things that exist can be reduced to it? The challenge is to discern the minimum number of basic categories that can explain the entirety of existence.

Don N. Page is a Canadian theoretical physicist at the University of Alberta, Canada.

Closer to Truth, hosted by Robert Lawrence Kuhn and directed by Peter Getzels, presents the world’s greatest thinkers exploring humanity’s deepest questions. Discover fundamental issues of existence. Engage new and diverse ways of thinking. Appreciate intense debates. Share your own opinions. Seek your own answers.

A man's curiosity for searching what really exist and like philosophical stuff that's one of the coolest job that a man can do....

What we can see what we cannot see.
What we can think, what we cannot think....
Everything exist.

I'm not sure the verb 'exist' is sufficiently well-defined that the question can be answered. What does it mean for something to exist? Because the most basic, rock-hard, indefatigably 'existing' objects around us gradually erode to nothing when you look at them closely. A table is made of atoms. Those atoms are made up of sub-atomic particles. Those particles are often described as 'non-dimensional points'. No size, no shape. They're reduced to what seem like purely geometric objects. What does it mean to describe those non-dimensional points as 'objects' that 'exist'?

Crucially, what makes them any more objectively real than abstractions like mathematics, or pure thought, memories? After all, these purely geometric particles underlie absolutely everything in the known universe. They are what make up neurons in the brain - so what makes that brain any more 'real' or 'existing' than the memories it produces?

This is part of the problem with pretty much every concept when you look closely enough: the normal, everyday definitions that have evolved over human history are not fit for purpose when they're applied to a whole raft of giant philosophical concepts: time, free-will, creation, causality...existence. They're all concepts that humanity created without thinking about them too much, because they didn't need to think about them. They were invented first and examined second.

All that exists is recurrence . Without recurrence you don’t have anything. And since recurrence is an idea, there’s most likely an ideal abstract blueprint that exist behind its material phenomenal parallel Of everything

"Category of God, " lol. Then the category would have to be more fundamental than God. So 1) where does that category come from, and 2) how does that square with all theistic belief about god being self-existing, creator of all things, etc? Ridiculous.

"God the father, god the son, god the h.s." That's three things, not one. So he either doesn't know basic math (as all christians seem not to know in deference to their brainwashing), or he doesn't understand that three things are not sufficiently reduced to be a fundamental thing.

Third category: too absurd even to comment on.

got as far as "of course as a Christian I believe in God" and that was it. Non credible source, all else invalidated.

Not surprising that an interview with Moses would keep referencing god.

All that exists is information. And awareness with choice.

Why bring quantum consciousness for explaining consciousness or world? Just to feel smart ?

All this talk of G-D on the channel… can we PLEASE get a conversation with an orthodox Rabbi?! I’ve never seen one in all these years. I can’t understand why. Seems a perfect fit.

Does God have concrete existence? How would describe God existence?

Depending on how our conscious minds were guided, some will believe that more exists than what actually exist.
Our universe, with all in it, seems to exist and was discovered through humans consciousness. The only problem that comes up, is the individual developed mentality of each conscious mind to contemplate and understand the right way of its perception. Since consciousness is a mixture of independency, informations, and experience, it can be manipulated and led in directions.
Existence is all that exists; stones, planets, animals, and can be seen and touched, but there are other existing non touchable, non visual, chemical processes, like taste, smell, sound, that also have to be considered as existing.
Then, the manipulated conscious minds, to believe the existence of supernatural, souls and spirits, the paradise of heaven, and the punishing hell, that are also hidden entities to the natural world.
So, every question bears a long explanation behind it.

"God" doesn't choose to generate some things and not to generate other things. "God" generates all that "God" can possibly generate. Anything that is not generated is merely impossible. There are no constraining factors that preexist this generative force, and as such there is nothing to limit what is generated from what can possibly be generated. Everything that is possible is generated. The concept of "God" is entirely superfluous. There is only possibility and impossibility.

(5:50) *DP: **_"This Platonic thing of mathematical truths, I think they just exist as logical necessities, and they can't be created or destroyed, so those things have kind of a fuzzy existence, but they are apart from God."_* ... This is the problem theists encounter when they apply an all-knowing, all-powerful "Causer" to the full spectrum existence. Certain areas of existence that don't conform with the God concept are either marginalized (fuzzy existence) or tossed out of the equation (not a part of God).

Science does the same whenever things don't fall directly in line with where a theory takes us. The mathematics of Big Bang take us to an origin point of infinite gravity and density called "singularity, " but that's kind of a "fuzzy existence, " so science tosses this tiny little point out of the equation (not a part of Big Bang).

Science and theism are strangely similar in so many _fuzzy_ ways, ... so neither should be removed from the equation until we figure it all out.

Human senses are, SO LIMITED, how can we ever really know what exists or actually is . A dog can out smell us a million to one . So how can we judge what anything REALLY smells like . It is the same for all our senses and our LIMITED BRAINS . We can only understand what is in the scope of our inherent beings .
